Had bunion surgery 3 weeks ago and my period is 9 days late, I’m on the pill and now a bit worried. Has anyone experienced this?

Quite likely the stress of the surgery has affected your cycle, which will return to normal with time. However, you should NOT be on the pill either in the lead up to foot surgery or in the months of recovery afterwards—it increases your risk of blood clots.

I came off the pill before surgery (as instructed) and still haven't taken it again a couple of months after surgery - it did mess with my period though - mine was a month & half late! Stress/bodily trauma can often lead to late periods so don't worry. I would ask ur doc if u should be on the pill at all though.

    all the best xx

I’m not on bc personally, but had a scare of a blood clot post-op and the first question the doctor asked was if I was on birth control. Apparently, bc increases the risk of clotting after surgery. It seems recommendations differ by doctor, but most recommend stopping the pill before surgery and not starting up again anywhere from weeks to months post-op.
