Take someone with you and make sure the doctor gets the message how bad you feel - if he doesn't do something useful he needs to send you to someone who will make a decision.

Hello, have you been diagnosed and put on Predisone or any others medication?   I have only just been diagnosed myself just over a week ago and the Pred although it helped at first at 25 mg was not enough to knock out all the pain.   For so long we go through all this pain and useless GPs just ignore us.

What have you got PMR.  Do you have the GCA too.

Is there anyone there with you to help?  What kind of doctor do you have an appointment with tomorrow?

I should have answered others on the forum but was down in the dumps myself and didn't know where to start with all the horrors I have wrong with me.

Take care of yourself, call a friend or a carer.  You can get help with taxi rides etc.   We must not give up no matter what.

Hi, am so sorry that you are feeling low.  Please take Eileens advice and if you can take someone with you.  If you can get paper and pen and write down how you are feeling, don't worry about spelling or grammer, just get it down.  Sometime the very fact of writing it all down can help your mood, because you are taking it out from your mind and actually looking at it in black and white.

There is light at the end of the tunnel and sometimes the tunnel really isn't that long, believe me I am sure we have all been there one time or another.  So take heart because you will get through this.  There are a great bunch of people on here who can give you advice, support and loads of information.  You take care and the best of luck for tomorrow.       Pat

Anyone will tell you on this site that there is no painkiller (I was prescribed co-codomol) that will take the pain away.  The only pain relief is from steroids (pred).  I could not go back to that pain.  Yes I have still got a few aches and pains but nothing like it was.  I can live with that.  Hope you get sorted out vey soon.        Pat

I just to have a pain free time its depressing to know its going to be the same every day sad

I understand, I was in constant pain every minute, every hour, every day.  I couldn't turn in bed.  Mornings were worse, I was like this for approx 6 months.  You will be able to function again and be pain free, once you get sorted out at drs.

I am sorry you are in such awful pain.  PMR is such a nasty thing but you'll be better with the right care.

I agree with Eileen that you should take someone with you tomorrow and also, if you can, either refer the doctor to the link on the PMR-GCA UK North East Support group site which Eileen can send to you if hope. If the GP is not familiar with PMR  this should help him/her.

If it is indeed PMR that you have and the doctor gives you the recommended dose of prednisone and you respond like many of us have, you will feel at least 70% better within a day I think.   I, like a few others, felt 90% pain relief within 8 hours of my initial dose of prednisone.

Best of luck tomorrow and "this to shall pass" smile

    Hugs, Diana

Hi hotpicks, I am not sure if you have been diagnosed with PMR yet but if you haven't ask you Dr if he will agree to a short course of prednisone. 15 mgs for 2 weeks. A short course like that will do no harm at all and if it helps your pain then there's the diagnosis your Dr requires to keep you in the drug providing your symtoms fit the condition, well they can be as long as a piece of string! Good luck for today. Christina

Hi hotpicks, do you have a date for your scan and rheumatologist appointment, also what medication, which I presume is for the pain, has he now given you? Christina

Feb no date til after then naproxen paracetamol and strong dose of tramadol

Hi hotpicks, let's hope you get both your scan and a rheumatologist appointment asap in February then get this pain sorted out once and for all, do let us know how you get on. All the best christina

Did you suggest PMR to your GP?  If so why would he not try prednisone to see if you respond to it?  Taking a 15mg to 20mg dose for a short time wouldn't hurt you unless you're on other meds that don't work well with prednisone.  February seems like a long time away if you're in unbearable pain,  I hope the drugs will relieve some of that for you but prednisone seems so much easier.  I don't know what your current health situation is and so these are just my thoughts on it.

      wishing you relief and rest
