Had first dilation 1 week ago. Able to eat much better but have had indigestion each day for an hour

I am taking 1 lansoprazole as directed as I was before procedure. I am wondering whether to take 1 before my evening meal too. Can anyone advise?

I think this is something you have to discuss ultimately with your Doctor.

Brilliant news that you are eating better already, let's hope your Dilatation proves as successful as mine 9years ago!!

    Good luck and keep positive.

I am keeping my fingers crossed, I suppose I will be tender inside as yet, so I'm putting indigestion down to this at moment. Good to hear of your successful dilation. I had myotomy 33yrs ago and have had return of symptoms recently so I've done ok I have another couple of dilations to have. Good to speak to people who understand this awful disease . Wishing you all the best.

Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that works by switching off stomach acid so to some extent the dose will be governed by whether you suffer from reflux or not. There will be instructions on the leaflet that may help, but the reason for this is that dilating the lower oesophageal sphincter may well allow a bit of reflux to rise. Personally, I would stick to the plan and take Gaviscon in addition if you suffer reflux if you have not managed to check with the doctor.

I agree I should stick to plan. It's probably because I am tender inside. Due for next dilation in 6 weeks. Thanks for your response.

    Hi Maz

I had a dilatation but it didn't make my swallowing any easier at all. It also made my heartburn much worse ie more freqent and intense. I was on 40mg Espmeprazole twicw a day before the procedure & I have since been prescribed Renitidine twice a day too. I take both tablets in the morning & at bedtime.  I still get heartburn & take Gaviscon as & when. I have been advised to have another dilatation but at the moment I would not. I think the tablets are supposed to give 24hour cover so it should not make too much difference when you take them but for indigestion I would think it would make sense to take it before eating your evening meal

    All the best
