Had ITB Release & Lateral Release to Knee still no good

I had an ITB & Lateral Release surgery to my left knee 6 months ago to try to resolve issues with my knee cap tilting outwards causing me a lot of grief. I  did all the rehabilitation & was going well for a while. Now pain is back when I stand up & sit down can feel the bone moving on the outer side. I have numbness across the knee & down the outer side of my leg down into my toes (which get worse when I walk around). I am also getting pain again around back of knee, get that biting pain on the inner side of the knee when I stand. Can't go up or down stairs due to the pain. Getting shin pain now too. Just had an MRI on my back & CT on my knee from what I can see the back is not causing any issues. Just waiting on CT scan to see what it says. I have been told possibly depending on those results I may need to have Tibial Tubercle Transfer Surgery. Can anyone tell me what to expect with that surgery ?, How much time I maybe looking at having off work ? I do a sit down job which does warrant me getting up & down during the day. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had this done many many years ago. They do it to create stability in your knee, especially the knee cap.  Then it was just called a tendon transfer.  they just move the tendon (with a little bit of the bone attached )from one side of shin to the other. It shifts the knee cap into a more comfortable place (and you wont get that grating) Hopefully the pain you feel at the moment will ease. Good luck

Thanks so much for coming back to me I will see what happens when I see my surgeon again on 12th October. I am uncertain which way he will want me to go surgery or more physio with taping etc..

Fingers crossed if he does go for the surgery option I can go back to work after two weeks as my job is a sit down one .

    Hi Lib1968...

Don't know your age or background...can only tell u mine regarding a Tibial Tuberical transfer. I'm a 57 yo female and I had trouble bilaterally with my knee cap tracking from an over correction as a baby. After years of pain and dislocation issues the doctors discussed having this surgery with me. I was told that for each knee, I needed both, the recovery was difficult. 6 weeks completely non weight bearing. Tgen skit of PT. u was also told that this surgery has only about a 15-20% chance of success. Also after it was all done there was an excellent chance that I would still need a TKR. As a result u went for bilateral TKR's 6 mo ago. Also, my surgeon also said that every time they do surgery more scar tissue is created. Usually, he said the first time they go in is the best time. So far for me so good! My new knee caps track beautifully. Not to say that it wasn't a very difficult recovery and still is. Good luck which ever way you decide to go.

      Hi Joyce

Thanks for coming back to me.

I am 46yrs old & have troubles with both my knee caps tracking well but only the left one is really causing me grief at this time & hopefully the other one doesn't flare up!

I see the surgeon again on 12th October so will see what the outcome is I am hoping if he does go the surgery option that I can be back to work within two weeks as my job is a sit down one.

I have only had the ITB & Lateral Release done back in April of this year so hoping that not to much scar tissue has formed so if surgery is the way to go.

My biggest issue I think is the pain goes by the joint on the outer side sublaxating so often when walking & sitting/standing. I am amazed how painful it is if the lightest thing knocks it. It still feels so tender & bruised best way to describe it! Not sure why this is so so any information on this would be great smile
