Had my Op!!

Cut a long story short of me crying like a child and being terrified... I had the surgery on the 8th Sept.... i had no idea wha they were going to do but even though i was told it was going to be day surgery, i had to stay overnight because i didnt get called till 3pm.

The pain was not as bad as i thought when i woke up but i think i have relied on the pills... however 3 days after the surgery the pain was unbearable, it took me 20 mins to get up off the sofa and i couldnt walk up the stairs. I never wanna go through that again.

Cut to today... the pain has died down and i have to go back nex week for them to take my stitches out SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME ITS NOT AS MAJOR AS I THINK ITS GOING TO BE... and after that i am hoping its all going to be fine and dandy... but i doubt it will be.....

Please share your experiences if you had this similar operation!! I am never going through this again!!!

    Hi Lozza,

I had that surgery last year!!! Honestly, taking the stitches out was fine by the time it came round to that time, however I was pretty immobile and slow for a while, you just need to take it easy.

Unfortunately for me i had trouble with the wound pretty soon after the stitches came out, so I went for the new surgery last week (cleft lift) - this is stitched too but the stitches are off the midline and that same evening I was able to walk unaided to the toilet and shower myself too, huge improvement on the last op. Also, bear in mind it may be a bit sorer a few days after the op as some surgeons inject a long lasting anaesthetic into the wound during the operation, so this may be slowly wearing off. Keep on top of the pain meds!!

    Happy healing!

I just wanted to say that as you got so worked up and had such an emotional time it's possible that some of your pain is psycosomatic. Please don;t take this the wrong way whatever the sorurce of you pain it is very real to YOU and that is what is important in controlling it. You are already worrying about what it will be like havng the stiches out, I wondered if you might be abloe to ask the GP for a tranquiliser before you go,to mmake the expereince easier for yourself. This is no different from the very real terror some people experience going to the dentists etc, so please please do not think I am trying to belittle the way you feel. I am just tryng to help. My son and daughter both have a chronic pain condition so we have learend a lot about pain management, one of the things we learned was if you expect it to hurt it will, because you actually start of the adrenalin rush the \"Fight or flight\" cycle. Other suggestions culd be talking to your GP about counselling as you wil lnever know when you might need some other medical procedure, and you should not have to go through life being frightened of pain.

I have had two ceasaerean sections the frist was stitched with a single wire type stitch and that was pretty sore when it came out the good thing is it does come out quite quickly and is all over in seconds., the second was done with staples and was no problem at all. My daughter had a ganglion removed on her foot when she was only 10 and she had a single wire stitch like mine, she winced a bit, but was otherwise fine.

I hope your have a good recovery, and please talk to someone if you are really worried a bit of reassurrance really can make a difference.

No i so agree with the pain thing, i think its all in my head. I jus dont cope with pain very well. But with having stitches out, i hear its really not that bad, so not bad enough to give painkillers or anything. But i am going to take 2 of the pills the hospital gave me before i have them out... in case. I have sat through 2 tattoos so im thinkin if i can brace myself through that i can get through this.

I also have a fear of anything medical!!

I am just hoping that after these stitches are out, i have no further problems. Worst part is, i have had the same bandages on since the operation, i dont think that is a good thing.... i hope i dont get an infection from it. The wound also keeps oozing \"stuff\" like a bloody liquid (not to sound vile) and im hoping that is not abnormal neither.

I do regret having the operation but its done with now and i have to find out more tomorrow when i return!!

    Hi

I had the operation in 2001 and haven't had a problem since. :D I was in a lot of pain after the operation and I remember wishing I had never had the op but it's worth it.

Having the stiches out did hurt a bit but I didn't need any painkillers.

I was advised to have my dressing changed every couple of days and I went to the doctors to have this done. I had to buy my own dressings but the nurse cleaned the wound for me. Think you should change your dressing.

    Hope this helps!
