Have a look at my posts if you have time Mark...Bladders do heal to a great extent.

Not like new but it is amazing how they can recover . I cathed for months but sounds like you are already on the way to recovery mine had been stretched so much , yet I pee on my own now and never cath...I reckon a month or more or LESS and yours will be good .

Mine took a while but it was worth it. .

    Good luck

Thanks! When the Dr's assistant told me that some people have to use a bag for the rest of their life, I lost it mentally. I appreciate you spending your time to reply. I feel better already. The doctor needed to be more transparent before the procedure about the complications.

Yes some professionals take it for granted telling patients what might and might not happen .

Another thing I noticed about my situation was that it was more difficult in the night to pee...feels like the urinary system wants to sleep too...

Of an evening I would drink a couple of whiskies with lemonade and it seemed to not only relax my mind but also my prostate and things felt as if they worked more naturally...I peed better.

I do not drink now but at the time it helped me..

Perhaps the doc's assistant shouldn't have told you that some people have to use a bag forever. I would be depressed if I were told that.

ok. I posted the 11 days ago i had Rezume . it is now just over 5 weeks. I don't cath now ( I seem to empty most of my bladder after peeing.). I am peeing a lot. 4 times at night. sometimes every hour or less. i found out out if i take Motrin (anti- inflamatory) i am almost normal. The doctor said that is because the bladder is still recovering. Is this normal? The urge to pee on some days is better than earlier but some days not so good. Should i be alarmed?

After my Rezume I was still peeing a lot and retaining. My Urologist ordered another test where they fill your bladder and measure all sorts of things and analyze how your bladder is functioning as a pump. Based on that, he did a bladder neck TURP. I quickly recovered and have been great since.

The question is are you retaining? Are you peeing a lot at night because you are retaining? Or is it it just a matter of retraining your bladder? Either your bladder is full and you're peeing at night or your bladder just thinks that any amount is a full bladder and you're peeing at night. If your bladder is full you probably need another procedure unless it is full because your bladder is stretched. If that's the case, cathing could help recovery function as many here have pointed out.

Here's an up date. Tomorrow will be 3 months since rezume. The good news: I am peeing less. A month ago it was around 11 - 14 times a day. It is now 8 - 11 times a day. At night, 1 - 3 times with an average around 1 - 2 times. The bad news: Urgency to urinate is bad. Also, the feeling to urinate is quite often. Maybe not real bad, but there. pretty much all day peeing is on my mind. Ibiprofin helps a lot but i try to stay away from it. Because it works pretty good, that would seem to tell me that i am still inflamed and eventually i will heal. i hope so, this is driving me nuts.

How are you doing now Mark?

thanks for asking. It's been 21 weeks. urge to pee all the time is almost all gone. That started at about 4 months. Extreme urgency to pee has gotten better. Still not perfect yet but quite a bit better and improving. I'm peeing an average of 7 times a day. Once at night. only concern is that about half the time my pee will stop and start a couple times at the end. Seem to be emptying though. Everything is improving and I can go for a 1 1/2 hour walk without worrying about making it home. It's been a long journey but I think all will be good.

Interesting reading about your journey, Mark. I had the treatment 6 weeks ago. My prostate was 37gms and I had 4 steam injections under full anesthetic. I was on a catheter for 7 days. When the catheter was removed I could urinate okay but I assume that was as a result of the catheter temporarily shaping things inside. I had the usual urgency, burning sensation, but the flow started to drop down. I decided to plod along. Then I started waking up 4 or 5 times a night when prior to the procedure, the worst was 3. At week 4 I couldn't take it any longer and went back to hospital, where I was prescribed Silodosin (not by my doctor as it was his day off). It did not help and within two days I had severe diarrhea so I stopped taking that. At week 5 I went to my appointment and because my flow was so low the doctor prescribed Alfuzosin. The next day I was able to pee like I have not peed in years, but that is the medicine not the Rezum working. I will be on the meds for another week and off them for about a week before my next appointment at 8 weeks and 2 days.

Honestly, I thought the treatment would kick in sooner than it has and I would start to see an improvement. The only positive is that it does not seem to have impacted my ability to ejaculate (which seems to be a problem for many on this site who have had Rezum). Fingers crossed things start to improve soon.

      Hi Moobin,

I am happy to hear you are improving. My prostate is similar to yours - 38 gram prostate. I have a median lobe obstruction. Did you also?

I am considering several different BPH surgeries but I have a markedly distended bladder and supposedly pelvic floor dysfunction, which Dr Kaplan said is caused by years of me overcompensating in trying to empty.

After these tests Dr Kaplan said my issue is not complicated. He would do an electro vaporization of the prostate and said my pelvic floor symptoms would disappear but I still should do pelvic therapy after. Other urologists have suggested other surgeries.

Did you have any of the above and also can you provide us with an update on your Aquablation as 4 months have passed since your post?

Drugs have never worked for me.

      Thanks

      Bob

Hi. I had REZUM 5 weeks ago and it has been a nightmare. The day of the surgery the doctor told me things went great. After they took the catheter out I only had drops for 2 weeks. The doctor put the catheter back in for another week. The same day it came - everything stopped and I ended up in emerg. To make matters worse, the catheter they put in would stop and start for hours at a time. My doctor changed it after 3 days - and same thing. The longest week of my life with the catheter completely stopping for 8-9 hours at a time. Finally, they removed the 4th catheter. Same result - could not even pee a drop by that evening and back to emerg. This time they taught be how to self-cathertize. My doctor sends me a note yesterday explaining the 3 various catheter options saying many people still have rewarding lives while wearing a catheter. I am depressed and terrified. Even if I have a Foley catheter installed again - it stops and starts causing me great anxiety. My uroligist implies that I am over reacting. I have no idea what to do. Before REZUM I had. weak stream, but no pain and was living a normal life. Everything has changed - and I wish I would have never done this. I'm super happy for those of you that had a good experience - I'm just sharing what happened to me. Gary

      Hey Gary

So sorry for what this procedure is putting you through. It does not do what it is suppose to do. It can take up to a year to see some improvement and 90 % of the time it will cause retro because the doctor does not pay attention to where the ejaculatory ducts are.

The doctor is the key to any procedure.

I have talk with many men that have had this done. One man in Chicago only had 5 injections. It help him about 50% he ended up getting retro which he was mad as hell. Another man found a doctor in California. He had a large prostate and no one wanted to do it. He had 15 injections and when she was doing it she told him that she would stay away from the ejaculatory ducts he improved by 80 % and does not have retro.

Also hate to tell you this but I know 11 men that had to have a Turp after to fix the tissue damage from the Rezum procedure. They were not happy

This doctor telling you that you are over reacting tells me what kind of doctor he is. I stopped looking at Rezum after I saw a videos of a doctor doing the procedure on a man telling him to man up because he was complaining that the injections hurt. That is not a caring doctor.

Having a catheter is not the answer. Your doctor is getting tired of you calling. Most doctor do a procedure and do not want to hear from you. They go so far that they refuse to take there calls.

I'm happy that I had a Urolift. It has been over 8 years still open and no problem. Again I'm so sorry for what you are going through. This procedure take a long time to heal.

Sorry but your assertion that "90% of time it will cause retro" is pure nonsense and not supported by ANY evidence.

You're entitled to be skeptical about the treatment but you need to exercise restraint when you find yourself spreading bald faced falsehoods especially as many men come to this forum to get real world insight into the options from people who've actually had the procedures.
