so i am having my heamoroctomy done tomorrow.

got myself in a bit of a mess with stories on here. this forum is great and I've had some good information just thought I'd check if anyone else can give me any last bit of information and experiences.

do they give you an enima before the procedure?

and when you wake up in recovery are you in pain at all?

I'm so scared!

HI lou i didnt have any pain when i woke up at all! i think you get a numbing shot while still asleep. 3 weeks post op and no pain at all just pressure which is awful but ive been diagnosed with rectocele prolapse so pressure will be from that.

the first week will be tough but it does get better promise.

the best of luck to you x

thank you! I'm hoping they will give me some pain relief. i have to strain on the toilet which I'm scared about, going to take movicol and not eat much.

did they give you an enima?

no they didnt but i took laxative myself the night before

I had to purchase an enema from the store and do 2 of them at home the morning of my surgery.

I woke up in no pain at all! Ask your surgeon if they'll do a numbing shot before you wake up, and tell your anesthesiologist about any concerns you have with pain or nausea. Best of luck!!

after waiting 10 hours on an empty stomach it's done. they did find a tear that for some reason he's left, hoping it's going to heal itself. but right now I'm in pretty bad pain. fingers crossed I'm on the road to recovery!

they gave me naproxin (low dose) and the highest dose of co codomal which i want to stay clear of if i can, I'm pretty much always constipated without them on top. they gave me 2 lots of laxatives and I'm taking the tramadol i have at home, it's took the edge of a little bit with ibuprofen.

did you have any problems with going for a wee? I'm really struggling to pass water and I'm desperate!

i can empty about half, i think some of it is because it's numb. you wouldn't think so with the pain I'm in! its immense! didn't nod off until 4am.

My surgery is on Wednesday. I'm sorry for your distress. Did they give you the numbing shot that is supposed to last for 3 days? Any medicine in the days leading up to the surgery? (I apologize for prying - I'm just trying to assess if this pain is overwhelming the meds and pain management regimen that the doctor is prescribing for me, or if your doctor has different drug protocols.)

not sure about the numbing shot, I'm in mega pain but when i pass water i can't feel it so it's odd.

i didn't take any meds leading up to the opp. they gave me co codomal and naproxen, it's a good job i went to the doctors where he give me 100 tramadol because the hospital gave me enough for 3 days. the cocodomal work better than the tramadol though.

And no it's fine, i want to share my experience on here as i got advice from this forum beforehand.

      are you in the UK?

I'm in the US. My doctor has me starting a med used for arthritis pain (Celebrex) five days before surgery and a nerve blocker (Gabapentin) two days before surgery. I don't know if he will prescribe anything afterwards in addition to those, which I've been told I must keep taking for a week after surgery.

I really hope the pain begins to ebb for you, soon.

ooh that's interesting as i take gabapentin daily for other pain. it will help you sleep. im taking senna (a laxative) tonight that works over night as i haven't been to the toilet for 3 days. i have so many problems with my bowels, that's how the piles started, i strain on the toilet. I'm hoping the stool will be soft, I'm terrified of going to the toilet, he said once i open my bowels the stitches will fall off too. in addition to this I've barely eaten as that means I'll go to toilet more so it's just a vicious circle at the minute.

i live in the UK and i got pain relief - not many but I'm sure the hospital will give you some.

are your piles external or internal? i had both and a skin tag that he also cut out

I have a grade 4 internal that has prolapsed and merged with an external, plus a second internal that is not as dire but the doctor is going to remove anyway. I can't wait to start taking the Gabapentin if it helps with sleep, because anxiety over this surgery is ruining my sleep at the minute.

its awful isn't it, it's just on your mind until the day arrives. they kept me waiting, i went 10 hours with no food!

I'm in a lot of pain so be prepared. i also take 6 gabapentin a day but take another medication that helps with sleep but gabapentin is a sedative.

I'm counting down the hours waiting for my next pain relief, make sure you eat, i thought i was going to be sick last night, i took my meds on an empty stomach.

it's an odd feeling because I'm in pain but my bum is still a bit numb.
