Haemorrhoid banding and anal tag removal

Hello

I'm 3 days post op from having 2 large tags removed and banding of 3 internal hems.

The tag sites were stitched which aren't too bad but the banded hems are now engorged and bulging/protruding outside and pushing on the stitches making it hell! Anyone have any advice or similar experience? How long before the hems drop off?

Thanks

Hi, I've had serious internal stitching and as they start to drop off you'll feel very uncomfortable. They should begin to drop out after about a week as mine did. The external ones as I'm told by others will shrink in time. Take sitz baths or even better, sit over the edge of the bath and have the shower bathing your area, amazing how that helps. The pain is something to behold but it will ease, you might not think so at the time though.

Thanks for your reply - showers are my saviour at the mo!

I'll just sit it out I guess and keep up with the painkillers. Things can only get better!

    Hi Eve

I had 3 internal ones banded as well a little while ago this year and none of mine protruded out although the swelling was extremely uncomfortable! It will get better. Did the surgeon tell you what grade in size they were? Maybe that has something to do with it, I hope you feel better soon!

I so feel for you. I had four internal hemmerhoids banded back in May, all at once.. and it was the worst pain i've ever had in my life. The result of that banding was two large skin tags and the need for more treatment on at least one of the hemmerhoids. This past Friday, I got the two skin tags excised and the hem needing more treatment stapled. Just want you to know - you are NOT alone in pain!!

I don't know what it's like to have pressure on the stitches, but when I did the banding back in the Spring, it took about 7 to 12 days for mine to drop off into my stool.

The only thing that helped then and now was warm showers

Thankyou! It's reassuring to hear others experience especially when you have no idea what to expect.

mine started to drop out after about a week, bloody excruciating pain for such a little piece of skin, it will get better, take sitzbaths or just let the shower flow over the area. It will ease the pain.

Did anyone else feel nauseated after a BM?

Apart from the discomfort I felt ok this morning but after a BM this afternoon I've felt nothing but sick. Had my lunch etc but the feeling won't go away.

No fever or other symptoms and only taking paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain.

I don't remember prolonged nausea but I saw stars and keeled over in pain after my first bowel movement when I got banded. Maybe your body responds to the pain by becoming nauseous?

Good thing is you have no sign of fever - do you feel any better now?

haven't felt sick after BM but was in excruciating pain, I was given Instillagel by the hospital. Local anesthetic to put on the area and after the initial sting it would numb things up. You could be reacting differentlyto passing the stool, if it persists might be worth running it past your GP.

Thanks to you all for replying. Nausea now ceased! Yay! Back to the doc tomorrow though as my bottom looks worse now than it did before they did anything! My hems were internal and tbh didn't really bother me that much, I could deal with the flare ups, and it was the tags that bugged me. Now I have what looks like a small bunch of red grapes hanging out my back end which I'm not impressed with - they hurt like hell and im assuming they are the banded hems that are all swollen???? What happens to them? Do they shrink and go back in before dropping off of will they be there until they drop? Either way they are very very uncomfortable.

Probably just the swelling, love 💗 The same happened to me. After I got bandings, two large bumps on the outside of my bum popped out. They'll likely go down for you - that's what my GI doc told me when I went back in for a follow up for mine.

That is the swelling most times, mine looked like Baboons back side especially after a BM and stung, slowly but surely the should go down. That's what I've been told by my GP.
