Haemorrhoid banding, just after some advice

Just trying to make a decision on whether to have a single internal grade 3 haemorrhoid banded, and would like to hear what others who've had it done think.

22 years ago i got my first and only internal haemorrhoid due to serious OIC (opioid induced constipation) after being prescribed codeine after a surfing accident. It has not caused me any issues since, so no pain or bleeding, just the minor inconvenience of having to push it back in after a BM. It's small and only just qualifies for a grade 3 apparently. I'm having a routine colonoscopy for my 60th birthday and my specialist suggested putting a band on it to remove it. I asked him if it would hurt and he said he'd be fine thanks for asking, but it might be painful for me for a while.

I have read many posts on here about the pain involved after the banding and the potential long recovery time if it all doesn't go according to plan, and now i'm very concerned that it may be a bad idea.

The specialist told me that he'd give me opioid pain meds if the pain was bad but without a PAMORA to offset the OIC which they don't seem keen to hand out until you're in a bad way i feel like i'm doomed to the real possibility of excruciating pain or the possible risk of the pain meds causing constipation and more haemorrhoids or even damaging the banded one.

At this point I don't feel that the benefit outweighs the downsides but in my inexperience i may be overlooking other potential benefits. I'd appreciate any advice on this. Thanks.

i had 3 band 3 internal hems banded in jan 2022 due to labours of 2 pregnancies. the sole reason i bad them banded was due to regular bleeding with bm which made me very anxious.

the banding did not work. the bleeding is still there.

id say if its not causing you bleeding if pain then don't mess with it.

the actual procedure is not painful bur the few days that follow are and if it may not work or cause you further problems i wouldn't bother.
