Haemorrhoid surgery

Dear All,

I’m on day 7 following surgery on a thrombosed haemorrhoid.

Sore!

Prior to the surgery my surgeon explained he would put me under general anaesthetic then cut and cauterise my thrombosed haemorrhoid and also cut two skin tags that were down there too.

Felt ok on waking from surgery and went home a few hours later. When I got home I looked in mirror and to my absolute horror and despair my thrombosed haemorrhoid was still there!!! I cried!! What had happened? No one told me what they had done to me and aftercare advice was non existent.

The next day I felt ok but then the pain kicked in on day 3!

I called my own doc for pain relief and asked him what had been done during my surgery and he said my notes only said haemorrhoid excision.

So why is my haemorrhoid still visible??

A week on, I’m still in pain, weeping wound and haemorrhoid still there? I thought it must have been banded but it’s not dropped off yet.

Aching bruised feeling bum too.

Fed up.

Any advice or anyone had a similar experience?

When do you next see your colorectal surgeon?

If its not for a while - call up the hospital and ask to be put through to his/her receptionist.

I have not been given any follow up appointments, just told to contact my own gp 😫

So I would suggest ringing the surgeons secretary and explaining the situation - see if you can get some answers.

I have similar problem. On day 28 now.. Still in pain after every bm. And yes i still have roids plus two new skin tags as the surgeon called them which i never had before. Said it was tissue from surgery. With that said. Before i went in for this he did say there are no guarantees.. All this pain for nothing. Never again putting up with bleeding leaking roids for many yrs and with colon cancer n crohns in my family i needed to get this looked after.. And now almost 4 weeks its worse now then before i went in.. Im no happy and this flipping pain has been the worse pain I've ever felt in my entire 56 yrs..

I'm no doctor, I'm on day 10 post op and it's my 3rd time of having this surgery. The first 3-4 days are the worst, try even though it's hard not to take regular pain relief as they can either bung you up or give you belly ache and feel the edge to go constant. Hot baths did the trick for me at least 6 a day, my Gp prescribed me instillagel and I swear by it. It's a numbing gel to apply with tissue to your bum. Since stopping pain relief and eating healthy , which I avoided doing for a week I'm starting to recover. Recommend anyone who's had this surgery to consult with there doctor for this gel.

Every one copes differently but we all feel the same, your not alone, feel for you and hope you get sorted soon. Here's to a speedy recovery x
