Drink 3+ liters of water, up your fiber intake, and stop straining when going to the bathroom. only go when you have to go do not strain!

hello.. i am not sure if you are suffering from thrombosed hems but given the pain you are describing it might be likely. my experience with thrombosed hem was excrutiating pain. I also got scheriproct (didn’t help), painkillers (didn’t help), only ice packs brought some relief.. i could barely walk and the pain was constant day/night. the thought of a repeated episode made me opt for hemorhoidectomy. i personally found the op recovery less painful than the thrombosed hem and would do it again without a hesitation. Best of luck.. I hope you can find relief soon.

i really feel for you and wish i could offer some comfort.. did you mean how long was my recovery from the thrombosed hems or hemorrhoidectomy? The first took a good week for the severe pain to subside but a good month for the flare up to go away. The fear from a repeated attack made me quite anxious. I really did try to lead the cleanest lifestyle but I guess once the hems are there they will keep flaring up. Even though I didn’t get another major flare up they started to bleed quite frequently where I would end up on the loo with blood dripping for ages (again ice to the rescue). It completely took over my life so I went for the op. I read every forum out there and was totally freaked out by the horror stories. It was also my first surgery and going under GA so I was really scared I wouldn’t be able to cope with the pain. Fortunately, my recovery was quite positive (I wrote a detailed post on this forum). I had 2 weeks off work and then worked another 2 from home so I could still continue with my baths/ice packs, etc.

I definitely had issues emptying before the op. According to my surgeon my hems were grade IV and very large (3cm) so I guess their constant ‘presence’ must have confused the normal mechanism down there. I would feel like going when there was nothing to empty or I wouldn’t feel the urge to empty causing hard stools. It is such a relief to be regular now with no bits hanging out of my bum.

Everyone’s recovery is a bit different but if it effects your life then I would definitely go for the op.. with a good colorectal surgeon and bit of advanced planning you will get through it with no regrets. 😃

oh.. i can still remember the pain.. it will pass.. definitely my recovery from hemorrhoidectomy was less painful than what you are experiencing now.
