Haemorrhoids or something else?

This is long so I appreciate your reading!

Back at the end of June I went to the toilet after a night of drinking and passed a lot of blood. It happened for 5 more bowel movements and then stopped other than spotting.

A few weeks later and the beginning of July, I went to the toilet and realised I had worms. It was unmistakeable as there were moving worms on the toilet paper and in the bowl! All night I could feel them crawling inside me and in my vagina which was so distressing. I changed my bed, washed everything as you should and took Ovex. The next few weeks were so hard, I was sure they were moving around my body which I now realise wasn't the case but was me being stressed and worrying. That night was the first and last time I saw moving worms.

I went to my GP regarding the blood and was sent for a sigmoidoscopy. Nothing was found except 2 internal hemmeroids.

I still have strange sensations around the opening of my anus. It isn't like the crawling I had before though. It's almost like a tickle at all times of the day. I wouldn't say it itches, but I am aware of a feeling there. I have taken enough ovex to keep the company in business but the feelings remain. Every time I feel anything, I go to the toilet and crouch over a mirror to check for worms and I can't ever see anything. Occasionally, I will have a small amount of faecal matter left over in the anus which I have read is normal if you have hemmeroids and also some mucous.

Now, can I stop my 6 months of stressing and trust the worms have gone and that what I am feeling is from the hemmeroids and possibly my mind being too in tune with every little feeling down there because I am so worried?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I feel like I'm losing my mind worrying!

Hi, it does sound to be haemorroids to me, but get yourself back to the doctor and get it checked out. Can't be Amy worse than the sig that you already had (brave girl, took me 18 years to get my 'grapes' dealt with!). Good luck x

That's what I think. I'm so hung up on the worms that I just automatically assume it's them but I don't have the tell tale signs. The sig was terrible and I don't ever want to go through that again haha. They suspected crohns but I got the all clear. More frustrating as I still don't know what's wrong (stomach pains etc) but I think subconsciously I know the worms are gone and these feelings are from the hemmies! Thank you for replying x

Hi, I think it sounds like haemorrhoids but I would get it checked just to be sure. Have you tried over the counter pessaries or creams for haemorrhoids? They can help relieve the symptoms. I used to use them for flare ups but then I had the HALO operation and now I'm fine. I think if you've followed the instructions on the worm medication, they should have gone by now. Hope you feel better soon.

      Thanks for replying!

I never suffered with anything like this before June. I think passing the blood firstly was a burst hemmeroid. Then the worms just happened to follow. No idea how I got them as I'm not around children. I suspect from work - started a new job with shared loos and some questionable people!

Having cleared the worms up (although not mentally) I do think i am now just dealing with the left over hemmeroids. I tried anusol suppositories which did help! When I crouch over a mirror, I can pop one of the internal hemmeroids out but it can also go back in. I think this is where the feelings around my anus are coming from because it is right at the opening. I wouldn't say it's painful at all, just causes some strange sensations down and sometimes a brief dull ache so wouldn't want to go down the route of surgery at the moment!
