Haemorrhoids Surgery and thereafter

Hi
Today is 10th day after surgery. During and After BM I had pain. After warm water sitz bath it is manageable. After 2 hrs it is minor pain.
I have stopped all medicine. For keeping stool soft, I drink warm water. First thing when I get up , I take 2 glass of warm water.
Leaked stool gives me irritation and pain, so I sit in warm water.
Pain Killers will give constipation.
HOW TO DECIDE ABOUT SURGERY ???
If you been in pain for long and haemorrhoids are big doctor will advice for surgery.
If you are in pain once in a while doctor may advice other options.
But I suffered upto 8 hrs after BM before surgery. So my decision to go for surgery was best and only option.
One thing, I would say is : (1) Take care about what to eat. (2) Do not try to recover fast. (3) Give time to heal (4) Avoid sitting for 10 / 15 days. (5) Make drinking water (preferably warm) your passtime.
And Surgery will be successful and very relaxing.
Hope this will help

Doctor said our body has capacity to heal itself. Let us give it a chance. Medicine in long run will only harm. Also laxatives prescription was giving me cramps in lower abdomen. And I thought it was due to surgery.
So I stopped all medicine and I shall contact him after 3 days.

This Monday I was diagnosed with rectal stenosis so yesterday I went back to surgery to correct that which required removing scar tissue and dilation of rectum.
I am now having leaking of stool and I feel I have no control of and pain is back just like 1st surgery.
I had a very tough night due to leaking stool and frequently having to change clothes.
I am looking forward to healing and getting this all behind me.
I hope there is never any more surgeries in this area again .
Worst surgery of my life but I had no choice due to entire lining of rectum covered with hemorrhoids and also had external hemorrhoids as well and frequently bleeding not to mention just down right painful when hemorrhoids would swell up .
I have been keeping stool softeners going and will continue until completely recovered or as long as needed .

Oh no Kathy. I'm so sorry that you are going through this. How did you know you were having the stenosis? Hope you recover fast

Doctor tried to do exam in office on Monday and he was unable to because opening in rectum was too small so he said he had to dilate under anesthesia. After surgery he told my husband that I had several tears internally and he surgically removed scar tissue when he dilated so now I have incisions and stitches inside rectum that hopefully will heal now and this will all be behind me. It has been a rough surgery.
He said I will have to perform manual dilitation at home to keep this from happening again until healed and able to pass normal size stools.
The only stools passed since surgery have been liquid leakage and small amounts of blood so far.
It’s just like with first round of surgery - no control of bowel movements. I only know I’m having them because of stinging and feeling of razors cutting my rectum .

Hi
I stay in pain because of my hemrhoids I'm hurting now all day. I think I have a fissure tear. I go to the colon surgery on Tuesday. I'm scared to death after reading all these post but I hurt already. The pain after a BM is horrible. I don't know if these ppl have hellish pain before the surgery. I'm also going to have Rectocele surgery at the same time for my prompts colon. May as well get my colonospy done too. It's time for it and if the surgeon will do it that will be good.

For BM I was given lactulose and fybogel to soften your stools and told to drink lots of water. For the pain I was given paracetamol and dihydrocodeine. I took the paracetamol but only a couple of the dihydrocodeine as I was not in alot of pain. Just remember everyone is different after the operation. I went on short walks and built this up every day. The first BM was painful as you do not know what to expect. But just take your time when having a BM and do not force it. After each BM I was having showers but then changed it to sitting in a bath and this helped. For breakfast I eat bran flakes with either raspberries or blackberries. Also eat apples and pears. The hospital will advise you what to do and give you leaflets with phone numbers to contact them if you have any problems. Buy sanitary pads for your underwear as you will have leakage as it heals.
Hope this helps you. But do remember everyone is different so do not be scared. When I went into hospital it was my first time as a patient so did not know what do except.

Thank you Mary for your post. I'm scared of all of this. I went to the colon sermon today. I was hurting so bad. I do have a fissure tear and external hems. The doc said it's going to be painful but she will give me plenty of stool softeners @ pain meds. I could barely walk from the pain, I came home @ took the pain meds she gave me and I took my first hot bath. I soaked @ soaked. It felt great. I don't know my surgery date yet. I wanted valium for that first BM but she said no. She gave me some cream for my tear and it helps. I'm also having Rectolcele surgery at them same time so it's going to be a scary time for me.

Hi Mary, I'm in the States. I don't know my surgery date yet. I'm kinda ready for it because I have a fissure tear that is very painful. The doc gave me pain pills for it and that helps. My Aunt has had several hem surgeries, she said it's not that bad. Just do a lot of soaking.
