Hair falling out, tried everything suggested already?

Background info first, I am a 21 year old female, have dyed my hair a fair few times in the past, although I haven't done so now for about 8 months. Also did used to use a lot of heat styling on my hair, but do less of it now due to the hair loss.

It must be around 6 - 8 months now, that my hair has been falling out in significant amounts. When i wash my hair in the shower I lose clumps of it, then when i brush my hair (wet or dry) I lose another chunk of hair, and then if I ever decide to style my hair using heat (straighteners, curlers etc. which is rare now as I thought that could be contributing to the damage) then I lose another load of hair through that.

The condition of my hair is very thing and dry now, and I can see very subtle bald patches coming through on my scalp (although not noticeable). I thought it could be the damage from either to dying of my hair, or the heat styling, but nothing has changed since cutting them out. I have had my hair cut quite a few times as I thought that would help maintain the health of my hair, but still it continues to fall out.

I've been to the doctors, they've done blood tests, all of which have come back fine. I then went to our local health shop and asked a specialist some vitamin tablets she would recommend for my problem, to which she recommended some tablets which I have been taking for a few weeks, but not change. And they aren't cheap to buy, and I have now ran out of them but am unsure as to whether to buy another bottle because I have noticed no change.

I've also tried all the little tricks such as putting lots of conditioner on my hair so I can comb it through smoother and lose less hair, tying it up less so it doesn't pull so many on the hairs etc. but I haven't even noticed a slight difference.

I thought maybe it could be due to stress, even though I am not noticeably stressed, I do subconciously find myself becoming stressed sometimes.

But what can I do to help my condition? Is there any diet I can follow that might have the right nutrients in to help strengthen my hair? Because I'm lost for what else I can do, and I don't want to lose all my hair sad as it used to be so thick and healthy.

Mine was basically (I think) a mix of stress and low ferritin levels. I was a vegetarian and had low iron levels as a result of low ferritin. I was initially given ferrous sulphate tablets in order to boost my iron levels. Unfortunately these made me very nauseous and in the end I had to alter my diet to contain more meat. After around 3 months of this, I found my hair had more or less stopped coming out. I'm still having no problems and it has all grown back thicker.

I hope this helps and I'm sorry if it doesn't! Just my two cents xxxxx good luck all. Stay strong xxx

What blood tests did they do exactly?   you need to have everything done and sometimes they only do some.   Full thyroid panel, Vit D, Iron panel including ferritin, full hormone panel :  estrogen, progesterone, LH, FSH, Testosterone, FREE testosterone, SHBG, DHEA-S and DHEA (you need both don't let them tell you otherwise even though DHEA is removed quickly by kidneys), and androdiestone.   It needs to be done between 8-9am.  don't do it while you have your period.  Wait until like cycle day 10 or 12 to get highest levels before ovulation.

I am a 50 yr old female with pattern hair loss, I decided to give nuhairrx product a try because I started to feel embarassed. Within 2 months my hair is so much thicker than before. You have to make sure you use it consistenly. This product works wonderfully and I would recommend it to anyone who is experiencing hair loss.

Hi, Did you ever get your Thyroid checked? I am going through that now and i have hypothyroid and no matter what stuff i am given it makes my hair fall out worse like in clumps and i have fine hair i have lost so much hair in 10 years it makes me so sad...but strangely only hair from the back of my head not the top??My hair hasd been layered on top for a long time trying to grow it out ot grows ok but super slow but no hair falls out just the long hair past my shoulders in the back, and it is a cry fest everytime. I have so many synthetic ponytails you can buy on line in all different lengths i put on the back of my ponytail i make and clip it on.. The pony tails look like real hair so i guess that is good...but i stopped taking any thyroid pills because of tons of hair falling out and feeling sick to my stomach and bad headaches...but not everyone gets these side effects.. That is another thing to check please get your thyroid checked ok, take care Hannahsmile

I've been going thru this same issue for many years now. I am almost bald. I've resulted to wearing wigs half the time now. The only thing I know was I was using tresseme products for about 6 months when hairfall started. I quit using it but hairs been falling out since. I can't wear my hair down because it gets on everything. I too went to dermatologist who said they can't find anything. But I had shots to promote growth, also tried medication. Nothing has worked. I've been searching for help for many years and I can't find a solution. I've tried everything.

Ok, I am female too and I  have dyed my hair almost all my life. The reason for hair loss can`t hide there. Most hair products are not so damaging than most people consider. However, you should look for the reason somewhere else.  http://missysharont.com/prevent-hair-loss-female-pattern/ Check this article for female treatments they might help you with some ideas.

    Hi all,

I was a follower of this group a couple years back when my hair was falling out. When it stopped falling out, I was under the impression that it was the fact that I’d started eating meat again, after being vegetarian. However, now I know this  was not the case. I have had two occasions in the past couple of years where my hair had started coming out again. In both instances, I had been put onto Cerelle (contraceptive pill). Now I know 100% that this was what it had been all along.

I was on cerelle when my hair had been falling out the first time. My doctor changed my pill, along with a few other things and I always attributed my hair coming back to the meat being back in my diet. But recently, as a test, I decided to test my theory and started taking cerelle again. Lo and behold, after about a week of taking it, my scalp was dry and my hair was coming out. So yeah, if any girls are on the contraceptive pill, it might be worth coming off/changing to a different one.

    Hope this helps! xx
