Hi. Does anyone know if hair removal is available on nhs for Folliculitis?
Suffered with with this for nearly 3 years and nothing works. Suffer with it on my genital area which is now spreading to my inner thigh. Ive been prescribed washes which dont seem to help and umpteen amounts of antibiotics. Antibiotics help for short while but then just comes back. Sick of this horrible condition which leaves me in a lots of pain as well as intense itching. In process of using pure tea tree oil which seems to have helped on a few of the spots but not on others. Would really like an end to this condition but have been told there is not much else i can do. Doing lots of research online has told me that laser hair removal is very effective for folliculitis but ive also found out it can be quite expensive. I hope one day i will be rid of this condition but until then i guess i will just have to suffer and battle on.

I have had many antibiotics but for the past 5 months I have tried to battle against it myself and it is very hard. I know that stress plays a big part so if you are able to try not to get stressed about it as I know this makes it a lot worse.
I have had to come to realise that this may never go but yours might so you need to stay positive and make a consious effort not to get stressed.
I allways find that when I am abroad and wash with sea water this does tend to make my skin better so you may be able to try something like it possibly
hope it gets better.

I have foliculitis too and the best solutions i have found are staying clean, keeping your clothes, towels and sheets clean, and using vigorous amounts of baby powder to eliminate any high-friction areas on my body. like my belt line and inner thighs. keeping things dry and friction free seems to be the best way to avoid irritation, which seems to stop the bumps from forming.
hope this helps -- good luck

I am glad to read that laser treatment helped cure folliculitis as I have been suffering from it for the last 4 years and the red bumps always come back.
What I would like to know is if your girlfriend got the laser treatment at a salon, a medical centre or did she use IPL, Philips or similar hair removal laser equipments easily available at drug stores?
Your help will be truly appreciated as pubic region is not one of those areas you can be uncomfortable with. I am literally in hell. Please help.

I have suffered from this awful folliculitis for 37 years, back in those days they just told me it was some sort of acne - over the years I have been to many doctors and specialists, they even grew my own antibiotic for me from the fluid that comes out of the very painful lumps. I tried anything and everything. One specialist said that they can peel back the skin, scrape underneath and sew it all back up, but the area that was really the worst was the pubic area, so after much discussion they decided not to proceed with that because of the area. Then I got an anti fungal cream, same as cream used for athletes foot - believe it or not it has worked better than anything I have tried in all those years.
