Half-life of pills

Posted , 2 users are following.

I just thought this might be useful as I've noticed that some people get confused about what a half-life means in terms of concentration levels in your body.

Example: If an anti-depressant has a half-life of 10 hours, then it will go like this:

40mg tablet taken in morning

10 hours later a concentration of 20mg left in body

10 hours after that - 10mg

10 hours after that - 5mg

10 hours after that - 2.5mg

and so on till it has left the body completely.

So one 40mg tablet with a half-life of 10 hours would take a few days to completely leave your system.

I hope that helps.
