    Hi!

I am now in the situation you were in in March? and due to have this operation - hallux rigidus (fusion) next month.

My concern is what shoes I can wear after the op. Have you had the operation?, what advice can you give? thanks

    Hi Francoise

I had the operation 3 weeks ago and am doing fine.

I was in hospital for just half day. I had a bunion removed and a fusion of the big toe joint due to arthiritus. General anestitic - all was fine.

I had 2 weeks at home with bandaged foot up, pain on 3rd day for about 3 days, but with the tablets the hospital gave me this was no problem.

I went back to hospital last week for stitches out and an Xray - was told all doing well.

Am home now with splint on, which I can remove for showereing. I can walk around the house, but on heel, not from of foot. Back to see specialist in December.

    So far so good.

Have you decided what to do?

Hello, I am considering having a hallux rigidus (fusion) - but I love walking and dancing and wearing heels - will I still be able to do this if I go ahead with the op? How long were you off work? Any advice woud be much appreciated. Thanks

Hello, I live in Australia and I'm booked to have op from a podiatric surgeon, not orthopod. I have osteoarthritis of joints causing hallux rigidus.

It is minimally invasive surgery, wih angeoplasty, scraping out the inflammation in joint, cutting off excess bone from swelling, and winding tendon around joint in place of catilage which is worn away. also pinning 2 hammer toes and an implant called hyprocure to prevent feet rolling in.

They say it will b 2 weeks resting at home then limited walking for a while.

Then I plan to do the 2nd foot on Jan 15,

I'm a bit scared as I read all the horror stories when I googled "bunion surgery" but mine aren't strandard bunions.

Are any of you seeing a podiatrc surgeon?
