Hi,

Can i have advice on post op 4 weeks please?

i had my toe broken and aligned and with a screw put in and my bunion bone shaved off.

were you still wearing your shoe they give you? could you stand on your injured foot without your shoe?

ive been going to the supermarket but with my mum driving as i can not walk that far lol

i just would like to know when did you start to walk on your actual foot without the shoe? as i can't yet as it hurts. i know that the bone takes from 6 weeks to mend itself.

am i being impatient?

hope you guys can help.

    Hi Frank!

Yes you are being impatient lol! 6 weeks is the absolute minimum that you should be walking on your actual foot. I had this surgery in July and had to have another in September as my broken bone did not heal correctly. Please only walk in your surgical boot or shoe until your doc gives th all clear! You could damage the work that was done. hope this helps!!!

oh no lovely, how are you now?

I only walk without the shoe from my bedroom to the bathroom (5 seconds). I also elevate my foot without the shoe to get some air in it in the day but at night I wear my boot and elevate it.

Thanks for the advice. it has really helped.

      you take care.

ugh it's slow going! I have my 6 week check up and xray on Wednesday so I'm hoping for good news. It is still tender but I had to have a bone graft from my heel, and 6 screws plus a plate on top of the first surgery I had, so my poor foot has taken a beating these past few months.

Hi frankie, I am 5 weeks post op now and i am still wearing my boot, was told to wear it until my six week check which will be on Weds coming. I have stood up on my foot but more to the side, I havent put my full weight on my forefoot at all. I think you are being a little impatient lol as it takes 6-8 weeks for the bone to heal enough to put full pressure on it. Im hoping I get the all clear to go into a trainer, as as you have said it is very slow going in the boot, and I find it uncomfortable due to the hight difference.

You may get those who have walked on their foot sooner but following the guidance of your surgeon I would say is the best as I have seen that post op advice from different podiatrists/orthopaedic surgeons has differed depending on which area/country you are in...hang in there!

      thank you lovelies.

Yes i am being impatient. lol

I only walk from my bedroom to the bathroom (5 seconds) on the side of my foot so i don't put pressure on it and elevate my foot without the shoe on but have been told to also sleep with my shoe on elevated.

I have bought some sandals from fitflop which are the same height as the shoe.

Also, i bought velcro vans trainers from ebay as you have some lea way with velcro.

I hope you ladies take care and best wishes for yours to heal extremely well.

Thanks so much for your advice, it has really helped. I will try to be patient.
