hammer toe surgery problem with nextra implant

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi I had bunion and hammer toe surgey two weeks ago. Had my stitches out today and found out that one of the nexra implants in one of hammer toes has not aligned properly. I am really worried about this. Apparently it may correct itself in time but may not. Nothing can be done for the moment apparently. Has anyone else had any comparable experiences?

John when and where did you have the Surgery? Ortho or Pod Surg ?

What has your consultant said ?

I had a podiatric surgeon called Jason Hargrave and he says it might be ok but needs time to see what has happened. I am just consumed with anxiety over this and very unhappy

Poor you John and fingers crossed that things will improve.

I hope you do not feel any regrest over your choice of surgeon i.e. Ortho or Pod because as you know I too am about to have surgery and on this site it seems to me complications can arise in both camps.

So I will leave the replies to all those who have had surgery and in the meantime just to say sending you a cyber hug. x

John - I have just looked this up -  it sounds very clever.

Is your surgeon the one that did Sandie Shaws bunions?  Because I googled his name - seems like you went for a 'top man'. x

Emis Moderator comment: I have removed the link as users can search Google on nextra implant rather than link to a specific website.

I had my bunions and hammer toe on both feet done by Mr Hargrave and yes he did Sandie Shaws feet as well.

I had my 12 week check yesterday and all is as it should be. Mr Hargrave was very happy with my progress and so am I . My feet look really good and no pain. So hopefully John would be too. Mr Hargrave is very experienced and if he says it will settle down then you should trust him. If any issues he will sort it out.

      So good luck John .

Oh! John - I put a link on for the nextra implant - in my reply to you.  So it has gone to the moderator.  Basically all I was saying is the procedure looked very clever - I am not having that mine must be the standard NHS routine.

I also googled your surgeon - did he do Sandie Shaw?  If he did I am sure she did her research first.  Keep going my friend and order yourself some special treats on-line e.g. Waitrose delivery with flowers, chocs, nice goodies for nibbles. etc. x

John how long before you will know if it has sorted itself out and if not what can be done?

Will it cuase you any pain in the mean time?

Personally I can't see the relevance to Sandie Shaw.

No - Kelly there is no relevance to Sandie Shaw - it was just something I said to John in the hope it re-assured him as to the surgeon he chose.

It seems some of us find it difficult to make the final choice i.e orthopedic or podiatric.  Then when we have made the choice and if there is a 'hic-cup' just maybe our thoughts can go a little haywire when you feel vulnerable.

After all it seems many of us put oursleves forward for this surgery 'voluntarily' rather than being told if you do not have this surgery, etc.

So my comment was only intended to support John - nothing else.

Hi Kelly I have been told I need to wait three months at least to see if the implant rights itself or does not pose a problem. If it does need to be removed then that will mean more surgery. After feeling really anxious at first I have now decided to be positive and assume it is not going to be a problem. I am not in any pain thankfully and I need to give my foot time to heal. After all I am only two weeks since surgery. I think that the references to Sandie Shaw were intended to reassure me as to the abilities and competence of my surgeon and were kindly meant. I did take them in the spirit they were meant. I would like to say thank you to you and eveyone else who has kindly given me support. Foot still swollen but better than the first week. I have got to be a bit stricter with myself in resting it as I am impatient to be more mobile and keep overdoing it. Thanks again.

Hi Gilly I understood what you meant and it did help to reassure me. When there is as you say a hic-up all the doubts and worries come flooding in. I appreciate your support and that of everyone else also. I think I for one underestimated how big this surgery would be. I think the hardest part is settling down and being patient for the long healing process. Thanks again
