Welcome! I'm sure you'll find a wealth of information and support.

I had the same op in October. Good news: you certainly won't need an anaesthetic for the pin to be removed from your second toe. It is usually the case that people don't even know it has been removed, believe it or not. Mine took a bit of twisting and turning and was unusual in that it wasn't exactly pain free but nor was it excruciating - definitely bearable and quickly done. What I would recommend and others will too is that you dose up with painkillers beforehand as it's common to have some discomfort for a day or so afterwards. Just as with having stitches removed, the foot tends to react to having been handled! But please try not to worry about it, it really is surprisingly quick and generally completely or near enough pain-free.

Ok thank you for your reply, i think i did the wrong thing by googling it rolleyes probs shouldnt have done that, my biggest concern is the bruising, and tenderness, my toe is still bruised black since the op, and my toenail has come off so im getting quite a lot of unbearable discomfort as it is. Cant bear the thought of how its going to feel.

Also may i ask, after i had stitches removed at 2 week mark i was changed from heavily bandaged and heel walking to in a cast and crutches without weight bear. Did you have the same?

    Thanks again

Ouch, that sounds painful. Sounds like your op has been different to mine - or your consultant deals with post-op care in a different way - as I was heavily bandaged and heel walking for 2 weeks, had the stitches removed and was then just bandaged up again and continued heel-walking until the pin was removed at just over 7 weeks. It was such a relief having the pin removed. Hope all goes well on Friday.

    Hi Mags,

i think different surgeon has his own way of treatment for post opt..My stiches were taken out after 2 weeks and was not done in the hospital.

There was no anaesthetic given during the pin removed which was done at 3 weeks . That was the first visit with my surgeon during the post operation. Frankly speaking they have their own way of doing it

I had 2 toes pinned and both pins removed.  No anaesthetic necessary.  One of my pins was even bent but the only thing I felt was just the pressure of pulling.  Absolutely NO pain what so ever.  You will be fine.
