Good for you. It can't be easy having to do household things. Not quite so bad with one crutch. When I was on two even simple things like carrying a cup of coffee were difficult.

Hope you continue to make good progress.

Hi there, I had my non cemented THR on 23 Jan. I'm partial weight bearing for 3 weeks on crutches which is driving me mad. Need help in the shower, putting elastic socks on and dressing lower half. Exercises have been going well. But overdid it Saturday by going out with my husband. Only walked short distance from and to car but knew about it yesterday. Still taking lots of pain killers to maintain relief. Did get out of chair awkwardly Saturday which it hurt like hell. Other than that everything is good except the boredom factor which is driving me crazy. Can't wait to be full weight bearing.

I'm amazed how quickly you left hospital! I was in for 3 nights! I'm 52 and have hip dysplasia, hence the need for the op.

I can understand the boredom I've never watched so much daytime TV! Be careful not to overdo it. And the painkillers are a must otherwise you won't want to do the exercises. I'm 8 weeks in and can't believe the difference from first 3 weeks. Still on one crutch, still can't sleep through the night, still can't get my sock on and have to get my daughter to shave my legs and cut my toe nails. but it does get better. Don't measure yourself against others that does your head in. I'm 58 and looking forward to getting my life back! Hang on in there!

      Hi Julie

Trying to avoid daytime tv in favour of box sets or reading! I'm still taking paracetamol and ibuprofen regularly every day to maintain my pain relief so I can move around as much as possible and do my exercises. Can feel my weight climbing steadily as a result of nibbling biscuits, chocolate and probably eating meals that are too big when I'm not using any energy! I have such an appetite some days. Can't wait to be using the operated leg. I know I'll have to ease into things after 3 weeks partial weight bearing but just want to get moving properly again. Counting the days to my 6 week check with the surgeon. Seeing the physio tomorrow - will hopefully get more exercises to do. Will have to get my daughter to shave my legs and will go for another pedicure in a couple of weeks. It's only 2 weeks since my op - have to keep reminding myself of this. You sound like you're doing well. I imagine driving again feels like you've got your life back. Being stuck indoors is awful.

I need to stop piggin out now. Hope you are still wearing your stockings over your hairy legs! I had a clot so beware! I couldn't wait to get rid of them at the 6 week check. I'm now on blood thinning tabs for 6 months was told it was just bad luck. The nights are getting longer and some sunny days which lift your mood when trapped inside. Week by week you will see improvements but there is no need to rush it's major surgery and needs time to heal properly thinking of going to the gym next week to go in the pool 🏊

      Hi Julie

Gonna get my daughter to shave the very attractive hairy legs! Just got back from my first physio appt post-op (2 wks). They've upped the intensity of my exercises, encouraged me to walk with my right foot flatter in readiness for full weight bearing as of next Monday. I'll be having hydrotherapy on Monday and another physio appt next Thursday so that'll keep me busy and out of trouble! Still wearing the lovely socks and injecting each night to avoid clots. That must have been scary for you getting a clot? How did you know? Was it painful?

Wherever you live you are lucky wasn't offered any physio or hydrotherapy. I was doing everything I should plus the injections. Woke up with chest pains called 999 and went to A & E and had tests then CT scan which showed clot on my lung was a bit of a shock. Didn't have any symptoms before that my leg was swollen and tight but that was it. And all before Christmas! Still over all that now check up next month for lung.

Good for you. I am 2 months post op. Give yourself lots of time to rest. Eat well. Do your exercises.

Yes I think rest sleep exercise and lots more f good food is key.....I didn't put my experience on to say wow look at me...it was just to say healing can vary and if like me you are alone sometimes in a strange way ...maybe it can help you heal....stay on positive....I was feeling pretty low 💭 thinking I'm not going to manage...but I have and I am....it's early days I know x

    hi alyson and

warm welcome to this wonderful hippies forum where you will get all the sympathy and support like nowhere else ...

Where do you live ?   Most of the members who had a short hospital stay live in the USA and had a anterior approach to their THR surgery ... most of us stay in the hospital a little longer ..

good to hear you are doing so well on your own and you are so brave !!!

I live alone too and went through 2 THR surgeries ... A home health nurse came every morning for 2 weeks to help me washed  and get dressed etc ... I could take a shower after staples were removed at 14 days post-op ..I had posterior appproach ..

Are you full weight bearing or not yet? how about bloodthinning injections?

Love to hear more about how you are getting on ... amazing

    big warm hug

      hi alyson,

that is a lot to deal with, darling ... no matter how old your parents were, it feels like it is too soon ... I am so sorry for your loss ..

And you are moving ???  Make sure you get a lot of help ... it is very easy to overdo things, like bending, reaching, lifting, twisting ... It is great that you are feeling and doing good, but still, it was major invasive surgery, okay ...

      be well and take care

      angel blessings

Hi Renee thank you lovely lady for your kindness me words ❤️

And not feeling great today ...slept well but just feel so drained and a lil emotional...not surprising really though is it considering what our bodies are put through!?

Anyway got lady coming from Red Cross later to organise some shopping and finally got some sense from the surgery...they wanted me to go to the surgery to get a sick note ....lol!! X

You will have good days and emotional ones. No one prepares you for this side post op. Think I cried every day. It's invasive surgery you've been pulled around on the operating table and then your mind and body have to heal. Have a good cry 😭 if you need it we are all here to support you. Each day you will get a little better x
