Hardware removal after Lapidus Bunionectomy

I had Lapidus bunionectomy (and a mallet toe repair) in Dec of 2019. I did physical therapy for months which helped with a lot of the stiffness, pain, and immobility that I experienced post surgery. Due to consistent pain in the area of the bunion repair I will be going in next week, January 14th, 2021, to have the hardware removed... a plate and several screws. Has anyone had this done? The other possible cause of the pain is that during the MRI they found that I have an extra bone in my foot... not real common , about 7 percent of the population has this. If the extra bone is the cause of the pain the surgery is pretty intense and I will not have it done.

Have any of you had the hardware removed after a Lapidus Bunionectomy? Was the recovery time pretty quick? How about swelling? I spent over 8 months with my foot swelling post surgery originally. I will be in a surgical boot for several weeks but this time I am allowed weight bearing.

Thanks in advance. I appreciated all the information here before my original surgery!
