Has any one gone to see a Colorectal surgeon?

I've got Diver.  Had lots of infections.  I just wondered if anyone has gone to see a Colorectal surgeon. And what do they exactly do? I'd be very grateful for any info .  I've googled it but just wanted some direct info from people who have experienced it .  TYIA

Yes I agree the only way to keep diver away is to eat lots of fibre . I have bran flakes every morning with three or four dried apricots which are full of fibre. Lots of fresh veg . Is also good especially broccoli and pulses and beans. I also take fibre gel everyday  I have had painful flare ups in the past and been hospitalised but now I am very careful to keep my bowels open everyday and touch wood have not had a  problem in past 4 months. I wish you all the best and hope you do not need surgery as I have read that it is not all that successful.  Bye the way you should avoid fibre whilst having a flare up. When you having. Flare up you should go on a low residue diet for a couple of weeks and gradually start taking fibre.

      Hi Wynn39782

Thanks for replying to my post and your advice on this awful illness.  I have always eaten a lot of fibre throughout my life .  I'm a vegetarian too! So I don't know why I have Diver!    The trouble is that I've had so many Diver infections that when I'm ready to eat to fibre again, I get another infection.  I do keep off food when I have a flare up ! Thanks again!

Have you taken antibiotics each and every time?  It's very depressing to know you have to live on antibiotics with this mess!!!  I've had two infections in 10 months!  In flare right now :-(  Is it the food we actually eat or is it JUST going to happen, because I was on a bean vegetable soup diet that I made it had Great northern beans, broccoli , cauliflower, carrots, and Cummings, olive oil , sea salt and parsely some onion powder in it. I eat with it plain yogurt and vanilla yogurt and Hersey chocolate  pudding. Meats are 99% chicken and fish! I drink milk and rarely eat but did eat cream of wheat. Oh and I eat eggs either boiled (most times) or an occasional egg sandwich. That was my main food over the last 10 months, does anyone see something wrong with what I have eaten. I rarely eat a cookie, cake, pies! I do eat Byre's ice cream not lots!  I'm trying to figure out what other adjustments do I need to make in my diet IF diet even has ANYTHING to do with it. I take Mag Max with B6 in it which helps with bowels and blood pressure. NOW emotional I am under a lot of stress dealing with an autistic son and a special needs 22 year old daughter and lost my husband but that was in Jan  2015 but its been years of tear, sadness, stress and the such as he suffered with ALS and was on life support for 3 years and watching him waste away for 3 years and during those 3 years he was completely paralyzed and unable to speak or eat the entire 3 years. I'm just sharing this because I'm trying to figure this out because what gives? I have a son who won't let me see my grandchildren nor will he see me or speak to me for the last 2 to 3 years because I adopted my husband's grandson at birth (the one who has autism)  forgiving me for sharing all this but maybe someone can shed some light on does stress have anything to do with it and IF it does how does that cause an actual infection? Thanks for listening.

Susan, why do eggs upset your tummy? What vegetables and meats do you eat? Has your diet kept your flares  farther apart? Anyone eat cream of wheat?

Hello Crosado8. Thanks for replying . I am really sorry for all you have been through in your life and the suffering due to Diver.  Yes I do have to take antibiotics each time, otherwise I will end up in hospital again. Maybe don't eat beans, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and wheat. People say boiled eggs are bad too!  Each person is different but many people can't eat the foods that I mentioned.  I know I can't.  Also nothing with seeds.  Keep your stools soft.  I take Dulcolease tablets which are fantastic!

I don't know what gives these infections.  Despite not eating foods which make me worse. I do still get infections .  It's very hard to deal with but I soldier on!  Continued...

Continued...So annoying can only type certain amount of words at at time

You have been through a lot.  It's very hard losing a loved one.  I lost my mother recently and it never gets easier. You also have a challenging life dealing with your daughter and son, which you obviously do with love and devotion , as that's why you are stressed !  It's so sad  that your other son won't let you see your grandkids, just because you gave love to another child.  Please don't apologise for sharing . We all need to do that sometimes . I am happy to listen ! I do believe that stress makes Diver much worse.  It may not cause it but it does aggravate it, a lot! Many people do think so too! But so much is not known about Diver.  One theory is that Diver is caused by too much acid in the stomach. I haven't read much about it though.  Take care! You can message me anytime!

My pleasure Crosado8!  Well I read in this Forum that there's a website called Fodmap with foods not to eat on Diver.  I had a quick look at it but not properly.   When I have a flare up , I drink pineapple juice ( not from concentrate) and have gelatine and jelly containing gelatine.  Pineapple has enzymes to help the healing process .  Youncan have CLEAR chicken broth too but I can't as a

I'm a veggie ! .I do this for 4-7 days .  At the same time I take the two antibiotics . And probitic drinks . And plenty of water . Continued......

Contined.....After the flare up.  I eat plain yoghurt. Live yoghurt. And White rice , potatoes no skin, cheese.  After a week or two, I have green beans , asparagus, water melon, spinach leaves , salad leaves. and potatoes, rice and cheese.  Everyone reacts to food differently. But the universal rule , I think is; Eat everything soft and cook food until it is soft.  No raw veg. No seeds. No skins . Drink lots of water. Susan9956 gave me great advice to do a food diary and note what you eat and then you can detect which foods don't suit you. Continued......

Continued post 3 !   I am new to all this .  So I'm still learning myself and asking people for advice.  I have done some research on Diver too. I can only do what I think suits me but I still don't know why I'm getting so many Diver infections.  It's such a terrible disease that we all suffer from and can be very isolating as people who don't have the disease think it's just causes minor discomfort, like indigestion.

What two antibiotics you take?  I only take Bactrim for 14 days still on it right now.  I have flaygl but the side affects from it I could not stand!

Has anyone else on here only taking one antibiotic when you had the infection?

    • Posted

I've never heard of Bactrim.  I take Cipro and metroindazole  .   It's the usual two that people are prescribed during Diver infec.

I am allergic to so many medications. Severely allergic to penicillin and ALL of its cousins!

When you was at doctor office and they called ambulance was you in pain, fever, ?  How long did you wait before you went to doctor?

I googled Flaygl as it sounded familiar . And it's the same as Metrodinazole ( the one I take! ). The side effects are rough but I deal with them as I've used them before for urine/kidney infections.  It separates the boys from the men! Lol! I take anti-sickness tabs .  You could ask your doc for some too if you wish.  It's a good idea to take both the antibiotics as otherwise your infection might not go.  Maybe talk to your doc about it?

Being allergic to many meds does make it difficult.  I'm only allergic to a few thankfully , Penicillin and anti-inflammatory ( Coz of asthma

I am not one to rush to a doctor when I feel unwell.  I waited about 2-3 weeks.  Then I found it difficult to get an appt.  I could barely stand. I was in a lot of pain .  I had a fever. And felt dizzy and 'out of it ' a bit . The doc checked my tummy and temp.  Continued.......

Continued.... The doctor said I had a very high temp. She said that I had to go to hospital.  So I told her 'I'll go tomorrow' . I just wanted to go home and collapse into bed. I had no energy and felt so rough.  So she said 'No now' .  And she called for an ambulance.  At the hospital . They gave me meds as my blood pressure was very high. I was admitted quite quickly after they did my obs.
