Veronica, to be truthful I only know that I had titanium on plastic and I don't even know if I had anterior or posterior (my 7" incision is smack dab on the side of my thigh not reaching my bum)......but after reading this site I will be more proactive in asking that I'm getting and the risks and ask why they choose this type of product for me, etc.....I'm having my left hip replacement next year (I'm ll days into my right hip) and will definately educate myself more....so many people here did their homework, so you should get some good feedback

    Hi Veronica,

had a corail stem with metal on metal - am due for revision in October with ceramic on ceramic. The surgeon is hoping to keep the stem and replace the head of the implant. I hope so too!

Have you had this implant, or are you trying to make up your mind about it?

I'm trying to decide at the moment, mine Is due when Im feeling brave enough to do it! I'm no too bad now but a couple of surgeons have told me that if I wait too long, the chances of getting back to normal are a lot slimmer. My moment is very restricted and I have difficulty sleeping in ANY position at night. Please let me know how you get on with your revision. Is the corail stem very long :-(

If u have no leg femur pain mostly crotch pain then most likely the ceramic ball and liner is all that needs replacing. Usually the mo pavements oner time wear and tear so the liner is worn down causing pain therefore needing a new cup and ball..

The Co ail hip system has been on the market since the 1980.. Mostly designed for the need to eliminate metal on metal ball joint designs.

the ceramic ball is basically the same design as many metal ball joints..all joints non cement are pres fit.. The hole in the is reamed out wth special tools . Once fitted to angle and leg length the femur component in placed into the femur bone and gently hammered into place fitting the X-ray of pre OP for best leg length match.

The component in the femur is one piece all metal component which fits onto the ceramic ball thru a press fit matching slip in then ceramic ball fits into the circulat metal liner in the ball joint once the tissue has been removed.

basically there are 3-4 pieces depending on the system.. PLZ see online for information.

My surgeon had all the THR components on display. While waiting in the office before for my first THR 14 years ago I found mysel like a kid fitting together all the pieces of the many systems for THR from many manufacturers and learning how they all fit together. It's was like a Lego puzzel. They all fit together perfectly and each system is different and do not inner change with on another system. cool
