It has been 20 weeks and my leg is so stiff I can hardly stand it.

I did great the first 2 weeks then my knee started turning red and itching

Two days later my knee and leg got a horrible rash.

They gave me steroids and put me on a leg exercise machine and nothing has helped the rash is gone but still itches and burns inside.

My knee is swollen 4 times the size as my other knee.

I try to exercise it and it is good for about 20 minutes then it stiffens and hurts to no end it feels like 1000 bees stinging me inside.

Has anyone out there have any of these issue's?

Do you have a fever? Could it be an infection? What did your doc say? I'd call....never heard of a reaction but some have allergies to metal...

Eva I'm about 16 weeks post bilateral TKR and I'm still experiencing the bee stingy, pins and needles in my knees and swelling especially at night but no rash or itching. I'm under the impression the pins and needles, swelling is all part of the process but I see my ortho doctor tomorrow and I'm going to ask him about it. I feel bad for you that on top of that you have the rash and itching. I hope that resolves!! I'll post what my doc says about the "stinging". ??🙏

Can you speak to your surgeon or GP, it does seem extreme! Maybe outside of what is considered 'normal'. Although normal covers a multitude of sins!!

    Please get some advice asap.

I had the same difficulty about 4 weeks into my operation. My surgeon reassured me that it was quite common. I had set up an appointment with my GP to help me but because couldn't get an immediate appointment I started taking a antihistamine each day and putting a little over the counter hydrocortisone cream on. It all cleared up within a few days and I cancelled the GP appointment.

If the knee is really four times the size of the other knee, then something is very obviously wrong. . . . . .complain and insist on specialist advice!!!!

    Hi Eva

Yes your description of the pain of 1000 bees stinging you is brilliant. It does get better with time but not do much better for most until around the 6 week mark.

I found hot baths gave some relief.

I written many times google Aircast Cryo ice bucket and kneewrap, makes changing the iced water in the knee wrap easy which really helps at night.

    Good healing

I went to my ortho doctor for 14 week visit and he's happy about bend and told me Im not a candidate for manipulation under anesthesia. I was very relieved to hear that. I had asked him about a month ago because I had heard someone had to have it and no way did I want more surgery. I asked him about pins and needles like bee stings and the stiff band like feeling. He told me it's all tissue healing, not abnormal. The stiffness we get he says is the swelling that occurs after exercise and more than usual activity. The knee reacts with swelling and then stiffens. Hope this is informative! ??🙏

Hi Eizie! I go next week for the 15 week check for me. What's your bend now? I'm getting measured tomorrow at my last scheduled PT session.I hope to be 105. I'm sure I will be crying tomorrow as the force bending hurts like aweful. And to the dear patient on this thread, praying for you to get the answers you need quickly and get relief!

Per ortho doc I'm between 107 and 110 in both knees which he was fine with. No more PT. Do exercises at home. I'm going to have to step it up now. No more physical therapist pushing me every week. ??🙏
