Has anyone any experience using Champix for alcohol addiction?

I've read that Champix has had success helping people to quit or at least cut down their levels of drinking. I am on day 9 and haven't noticed any less desire to drink. Will soldier on but for how long? Has anyone else tried this approach and please can you give some advice?

Hi there
A friend of mine used Champix to quit smoking, don't know about alcohol sorry.
The only meds I know to help with AUD Alcohol Use Disorder is Campral taken straight after detox. TSM using Nalfamene or Naltrexone.
Sorry I can't be of more help
Regards

If you're shooting for that, The Sinclair Method using Naltrexone (or Selincro) is a pretty reliable solution. More info on that under the Sinclair Method section of this page:

Hi, yes I'm aware of TSM and naltrexone but I live in the Middle East where it isn't available.

I googled it for help in stopping smoking. However the side effects stopped me, just google it and there's not a lot of evidence it helps for alcohol reduction.
New trials don't give much help.
sorry can't help more. TSM far more effective.

For anyone I interested - I turned a corner last week and was alcohol free for 5 days out of 7, I had a vague interest in drinking, but with just a little will power didn't. I drank one day in the middle and got back on track the next day. Some people seem to manage on 1mg a day for giving up smoking but I definitely need 2 (one morning, one late afternoon). If I wait til my evening meal as suggested the urges kick in strongly and it's more difficult. Side effects: a little nausea almost within minutes of taking a pill but it subsides quite quickly too. Taken with plenty of food makes a huge difference.
For the record - I have been drinking a bottle of wine a night for at least 6 years, sometimes more. The habit is strong, it's part of my wind down at the end of the day. When I have tried going alcohol free before I couldn't sleep, I was irritable and cried on day 4 and gave in. I also smoke when I drink, so this is truly killing 2 birds with one stone!
Champix is really helping me and I can't believe I'm alone.

That's fabulous, s00137! I hope they can nail down how Champix does it, we can always use one more weapon in the war against alcohol! What was your drinking like prior to Champix?
