Has anyone done Mona Lisa yearly maintenance treatment yet

Posted , 4 users are following.

I had my 3rd treatment the end of July last summer, and have been perfect since, but starting to have some burning now. Was hoping to make it a full year, but don't want to get bad again and have to pay for the whole series. Wondering if anyone has done the yearly treatment yet, and what were your results?

Yes, had mine April 4. Made it 9 months but should have had it done about two months earlier. Started getting symptoms at 6 mo. The Dr. Said anytime after 6 months is ok with her. I will schedule earlier next time.

Thanks for the reply Jean. Did it restore everything back to as it was after the treatments? I've been reading most maintenance treatments are done between 9-18 months for 1 out of 3 patients who have completed the series. Can't believe that some women NEVER have to have it done again! They must not have had it too badly to begin with. Hate to think of paying for this every year, but I felt way too good to not keep it up. I'm hoping that since so many Urologists are doing the treatments now for bladder problems, that it might start to get some insurers looking at covering it.

About three weeks before my "tune-up" Mona LIsa, I had to have a cyst removed from the area on the outside near the vaginal opening. It wasn't quite healed well enough for the Dr. to do that area. I also had to quit the Vagifem for three weeks. It was surprising how fast things got worse without that. So, she did the top half and I will get the rest of it in 2 weeks. However, the area she did is much improved now a month later.

I just had my annual treatment (first one) two months early.  Started getting twinges and didn't want it to proceed to a full blown issue.  Results were great and I am having no issues.  After three years of UTI's and antibiotics and pain it was a lifesaver for me to have the mona lisa and well worth the annual treatment which I paid 800 for.

Thanks Nancy. Looks like "a little early" is going to be the norm. I think you, Jean and I were the first pioneers on this site to get the procedure, so it's helpful to hear how you're doing. Makes sense that the tissue is going to try go back to its pretreatment state, since it's a chronic condition and needs life long maintenance??

Yes we were the first and what a difference it made. One day hope we see insurance coverage. Women who can't afford

Mona Lisa should not have to suffer.

Think I would live on beans and water to afford it!😉

Nancyo, I've been following your posts for ages. You've had quite a horrific time; VA is such a nightmare... thank you for sharing your ML experience, its very encouraging.

ML is not available where I live, but I've just last week had a similar procedure called Renovalase (a different company, same laser approach). So I've had my first session and I understand it is too early to tell, so we shall see. I will post as things proceed.

I understand from you posts that the ML got rid of your UTIs; did you have other bladder symptoms ie not just infections? If you did, did the ML help with that?

      Good luck

I think you can see how effective the ML is for urinary symptons by how many urologists are offering the procedure. The first treatment pretty much takes care of the bladder, and the next two continue to rebuild the vagina.

That's an excellent point Peg, re urologists doing more and more of these procedures and what that means re how effective it must be for urinary symptoms. I hadn't thought of it that way but of course that makes perfect sense.

Do you remember when you started to notice improvement? I know that everyone is different and also have varying degrees of VA, but I am just wondering I guess.

Mine was pretty much about a week after the first treatment. After the healing from the laser goes away ( kind of like a sunburn, and some healing itching (which Vagisil works great for)), you start to notice that you're NOT HAVING SYMPTOMS anymore!!! I did get a few short duration relapses throughout the 3 treatments but they went away after a few days.

Wow that's amazing. Do you know if that is typical or the norm? I think I have read elsewhere other women saying they were told to expect improvement between the second and third treatment...

I think everyone is so different, so there isn't going to be a norm. I've heard that some even have to go back for a 4th treatment before getting relief. My Dr said many of her patients feel better after just one. I had a few flare ups after the 2nd treatment lasting about a week -10 days, and was told just to use the Estrace cream till it settled down again. Wish I had gotten a full year after the last treatment, but looks like I'm going to have to return early for my maintenance. Trying to stretch it to 10 months

Thank you Peg, its helpful to know that. Although I know on one level thst there's a huge range of severity of our symptoms and it only makes sense that women have a range of different times to see improvement, its still reassuring to hear you and others speak and share what you have heard and experienced, so thank you so much for that.
