Has anyone else been diagnosed with Anxiety only to find out you have ADD as well?

Hey Everyone,

I am writing this to see if anyone else has been faced with this? For about 7 years I was told I was suffering from Anxiety disorder only to find that the underlying condition was Adult ADHD. At first I was embarrassed but now it's a totally different ball game.

You see what I didn't know was that most people who suffer from ADHD can suffer from Anxiety as well. What helped me to realize all of this was prior to being placed on meds I would drink and get such relief. Sounds great Right? well upon further investigation on my behalf I discovered a natural remedy book that explained what alcohol does to the brain. It said that contrary to what most people use alcohol for which would be to relax, it actually raises adrenaline which helps you to focus. Not knowing this and thank goodness because who would know how much i'd be drinking today if i did, I went to the doctors office and told him that I was stressed out all the time. So for 7 whole years I have been medicating for Anxiety and not knowing.

You see I enjoy reading and one of the most difficult things to do was just that. Constantly I was distracted and I thought this was normal. I would be challenged over and over again to read the same passage until I could comprehend what I had just read. I was very embarrassed to tell anyone about this so I just muscled thru a book looking as proper as I could. Thinking back how silly of me. Well I finally went to see another doctor and explained that the thoughts were still there even on the meds I was taking. He ran some tests and even though diagnosing someone with Adult ADHD isn't always the easiest to do I was given medication to try and from that day on focus has never been an issue. In Fact I have never felt so part of. And now I no longer have to read those paragraphs over and over again.

I understand, possibly someone with ADHD can have gifts that makes them good at some activity or other. If that is the case you need to find out what you are good at ???

    Good Luck with your reading
