Has anyone else been given Locoid cream?

I was told I had LS about five years ago and prescribed Locoid cream to use once a day every day for 8 weeks and then after a follow up appointment, told to use it as and when required.

I have never come across anybody else who has been prescribed this cream for LS.   Also I have never had any follow up appointment.

Sex is a long and distant memory because it is just too painful and I find it all very depressing.  I suffer from underactive thyroid and am also post menopause.

I didn't think I would have to give up sex completely in my mid-fifties.  It was only a few years before that I had a hysterectomy due to large fibroids.

Carol, many people here have had good results cutting out sugar. Worth a try.

Lodge,  it might be something new.

No it's not new, I was first given it back in 2011, but have never heard of anyone else ever being prescribed with it for LS.

My sex life and hope of having a healthy sex life is also a big worry for me too and I am only 25. Thankfully I am dating a very understanding man, but I dont think he appreciates how serious this condition can be.

Anyway to answer your question I was given locoid cream as my first steroid, daily for 4 weeks, then alternate days for a month then twice a week. It seemed to be fine til I went down to alternate days and the first week I had my second worst flare up to date. My skin is so broken and sore that I am miserable.

Have you found the cream makes a difference? Are you using any other treatments to cope?

So sorry to hear that you have LS at only 25 years old.

When I was first told I had LS (it was diagnosed purely by sight, not the formal test where they do a biopsy) I was told to use the Locoid cream once a day for 8 weeks, which I did at bedtime.

I then went back for a follow up and it was much better, so then I was told to use it just when I get a flare up, which is what I do.  It has helped a lot, but not with the atrophy, although undoubtedly some of that is down to menopause as well.

I was just curious because I have never heard of anyone else being prescribed with this particular steriod cream.

It may be worth you trying the YES lubricants as they are very good and some people do find they help with LS - the water based one is available on prescription.

I do hope you can get this under control, keep pestering your GP/gynae.

Hi lodge... i have never needed lubricants before and actually bought some last week not realising a lot of people use it for LS.

Thanks for he feedback regarding locoid because I was worrying it may not be the best thing for LS. I will see how I go with it for a little longer.

Also thanks for letting me knows its prescription! Its not the cheapest lubricant so that could make life easier and I would never think to ask about that.
