Has anyone else with fibromyalgia been diagnosed with hypoparathyroidisim

Hello there

I have fibromyalgia and was diagnosed the beginning of 2016. My doctor has just sent me today for urgent blood tests as she thinks I have hypoparathyroidisim and I'm just wondering whether anyone else with fibromyalgia has been diagnosed with it. Apparently it's a very rare condition and I'm trying to see if there is a connection between the two.

Thank you

HI, Alison,  I have been suffering with pain and tiredness for nearly 3 years.I saw a Rhumatologist in December who diagnosed me with Fibro.  She also requested blood tests and to cut a long story short like you I am being checked for hypoparathyroidisim.  I am on my 3rd lot of blood tests checking my calcium levels and I am waiting to go for a bone denstity scan.  My calcium is raised but not to the top level.  Like you I was really worried when the hospital got in touch with me.When my scan is done and my blood level and urine tests results are checked again I will be waiting for another hospital appointment. I know how you are feeling but try not to worry.  Big hugs   Sue

      Hi Sue

Thanks for replying to me. I'm trying to see if it's connected to fibromyalgia. My calcium level is extremely low and I have an extremely high vitamin d level. My GP sent me for urgent blood tests today to check my parathyroid hormone level, vitamin d level again, bone density and my thyroid and she suspects I have Hypoparathyroidisim. I've been looking it up and the symptoms are similar to fibromyalgia (well some of them). I wanted to come on here and see if anyone else has it and whether if you have fibromyalgia you are prone to getting that too. Mine was only picked up as I had blood tests for something else. Is there a chance we could have been misdiagnosed or do we definitely have both I wonder? I don't really know that much about it so need to do some research on it. All I know it's a rare condition x

    Hello Alison

I'm new to the forum and a still trying to get used to the idea FM might be the cause of my symptoms.

I too am scheduled for blood tests to rule out/in any other issues.

Unable to help you with your question but wish you all the best! 😊

Hey Alison I don't know if it is connected to fibro but I do know that a lot of us take magnesium to help with the pain we suffer from fibro. Magnesium can lower calcium and they should be taken in combination. I take magnesium calcium and zinc in one supplement so I don't have issues.
