Has anyone else with genital HSV1 had sores come back again right after first recurrence?

I recently got diagnosed with HSV1. All of my sores were just anout healed, i finished the 5 days of antivirals and i thought it was over. Now, I have the itching again and I thinks sores are going to reappear. Am i stressing or had this happened to anyone before too?

Hey, i was also recently diagnosed with genital HSV1. I had my first outbreak starting about 3 weeks ago and the sores only healed a week ago after the five day antiviral treatment, i started getting itching a couple of days ago and started taking anti-virals and turned out to be another outbreak as yesterday all the sores came back! i decided for a little while ill be taking one tablet a day to hopefully prevent another outbreak as this isn't fun! Although at the moment the pain isn't as bad if that makes you feel better!

Probably best to get a longer course of antivirals, I had the same with my first outbreak.
You can also get post-herpetic neuralgia which is due to the nerves recovering from the damage the virus does. I had really intense itching and weird shooting nerve pains for about a week after my outbreak cleared

i got diagnosed with hsv 1 genital in May. After my first course of meds was over I started getting that tingly sensation and immediately went to my dr. I was a mess and the thought of having an outbreak again destroyed me. She recommended I take 500mg of valtrex daily to prevent out breaks and also told me Im not contagious while taking the medication due to the fact that hsv1 already sheds significantly less than hsv 2. Its been 3 months and I still have yet to have another outbreak, its almost like this "disease is non existent. I highly recommend suppresive therapy !

Please still take caution. Nothing is 100%.
Yes suppressive therapy cuts shedding by up to 70% but there is no hard evidence to back this up as we don’t know when we are shedding.

You can expect more frequent outbreaks in the first 6-12 months post diagnosis.
People think that there is a huge difference between HSV 1&2 and that HSV1 outbreaks are less genitally, but due to HSV1 becoming more prevalent genitally it is getting more comfortable in that area. I found my mind played tricks on me a lot and mentally I think I stressed so much that I caused outbreaks! If you don’t already work on your immune system. Multivitamins and lysine.
Practice some self care and stress relief and make sure your getting good sleep 😃
I would suggest waiting the 6 months before taking suppressive therapy. You can gage then how many outbreaks you may have. They says more then 6 is a good idea that suppressive therapy should be used. Hard I know, but at least you can learn your signs and prodromes and protect others in the future.
Suppressive therapy is really helpful however, both mentally and physically.
There isn’t much know in regards to viral shedding other then HSV1 tends to shed less genitally and after the first year it can dramatically decrease for both strains. There is still always a risk for passing it to someone though so it’s best to always play it safe.
We were all at the other end of it before and know how it feels so should take that into consideration.
