How long did it last for?

For my first eye I had local anasthetic drops in the eye as well as an anasthetic injection into my eyebrow. That produced a deadened feeling that soon wore off.

I'd phone them and ask for an appointment to have it checked out.

Yes I too had that dead sensation, it was if I didn't have an eyeball, it was a ghastly feeling and although that feeling has now gone, I have been left with a problem eye and and pain at the back of the eye, 6 months on.  I am still traumatised by the operation I had done with that eye.  The other eye I had done was a totally different experience.  It seems we are at the mercy of who does the operation.

Hi carol are you still having pain at the back of the eye ,? and has anyone given you a reason ,? my dead sensation seems to come and go  but I also feel like Iam  looking though a tunnel at one side it's only 4 weeks since I have had this done it's a night mare and i didn't have a cataract I foolishly thought I just wanted rid of my glasses so i had a multi focal put in one eye  , but i felt the surgeon should of put me off as I had great distance vision , but i paid private , so I guess he just wanted my money it was a huge mistake ; ((

Roz  what you will be told is ' it's early days and it takes time for your brain to adjust'  if you are lucky that might be the case.  I do think that the outside corner of the eye seems to take longer to heal, that has been my experience anyhow.  I do hope things get better.  I am surprised they gave you to have this serious operation, they should have just given you laser treatment.  What country are you in?

Roz  I have lost that ghastly dead sensation, however, I still have lots of problems, dry eye, blepharitis, very sore eye, as if I have been punched in the eye, pain at the back of the eye.  I too wish I had not had it done, I did have cataracts but it was not necessary to have them seen to so early.  The tragedy is that you can not switch off from your eyes.  I go for another opinion on Thursday to see if the situation can be improved.

Re blepharitis. Have you tried bathing your eye in Johnsons Baby Shampoo? A friend was told about it and it amused me but if you Google, it is a recognised treatment.

Hi Derek  I have tried many things, at present I am using Eyebright to bathe my eyes in.  I thought I might next try tea tree shampoo.  Thanks for the suggestion I will try Johnsons Baby shampoo, indeed I will try anything to improve the situation.  Thanks Carol

      Google it.

"After warmth and massage, clean the eyelids. This can be done by any of the following ways. There is a lack of research studies to say which is the best method, so use whatever you find most useful:

The traditional way is to use a cotton wool bud that has been dipped in diluted baby shampoo. Just add a few drops of baby shampoo to a small cup of warm water so that the ratio of water to shampoo is about 10:1. Squeeze out excess liquid from the cotton bud to prevent drips getting into your eyes, which may irritate. In particular, try to clean off any crusts at the base of the eyelids. After cleaning the eyelids with the cotton wool bud, wash off the shampoo from the eyelids, using a flannel or cloth.

Some people recommend using sodium bicarbonate (a teaspoonful in a cup of cooled water that has recently been boiled). This is applied using a clean cloth or cotton wool bud.

Some people recommend using special eyelid scrubs that you can buy at some opticians/optometrists.

Some people say that simply washing the eyelids with cooled water that has recently been boiled (or preserved water for contact lens wearers) is probably as effective as using water with added sodium bicarbonate or baby shampoo"
