Has anyone found any natural remedies that work well for treatment and/or prevention?

I have had my 5th outbreak this year, they are quite acute but more annoying than anything else. I am looking for natural treatment or prevention measures as I am reluctant to go on the suppressive therapy treatment. Has anyone on the suppressive therapy found any bad side effects? Can anyone recommend any alternatives please?

If you go online you should be able to find stuff. The general stuff is to find out exactly what your triggers are and avoid them. In addition to work on having a healthy diet and keeping your immune system strong are great ways to minimize the outbreaks.

Suppressive therapy (at least what I'm on - valacyclovir one tablet a day) has the least amount of side effects compared to virtually any medication. This is what my doctors have told me smile

    It can get expensive though.

Aside from this I find a probiotic everyday helps me - whether it's coincidence or not my only outbreaks whilst taking medication was when I was slack with the probiotics.

Ok cool, I am basically really considering going on the suppressive therapy.... do you think your outbreaks have stopped since being on it? or just less frequent?

Do you have to pay for a monthly prescription or do they give you 6 months at a time?

I generally have quite a good diet, I think excessive alcohol and lack of sleep are probably my downfall

Not sure as I've always been on it since first outbreak. I've only had one this year so far and I believe that was down to stress

Not sure how it works in other countries but in Australia you can get around 6 months of monthly repeats which are around $40 per month
