Has anyone found good replacement for Half Inderal LA

Posted , 5 users are following.

I had been on half inderal la 80mgs for 8 years. They stopped being made. They were good quality and lasted full 24hrs.

Since stopping them I tried beta-prograne 80mgs but they were too strong to start with but wore off as the day went on leaving me waking up with palpitations, banging heart in the middle of the night. Tried 3 others, fast acting propranolol, bisoprolol 5mg and bisoprolol 1.25mg.

Felt I'll on all the replacements.

Had anyone found another beta blocker which works as well as Inderal La.

I haven't taken any beta blocker now for 8 weeks and my whole body seems to be in an anxious fight or flight mode!!!! Horubble physical symptoms. Hot flushes, cold chills, losing sensation in arms and legs, sort of dizzy head, banging heart, sweat profusely from head aftet exertion.

Was put on the Inderal for aura migraines...... Not anxiety symptoms but my body is now a mess.

Can anyone suggest one that works as well as Inderal.

HELP.....I AM VERY DESPERATE NOW.

Verging on depression as now getting very tearful due to how awful my body feels.

How long were you on the Inderal before they discontinued?

In what way do you find bedranol better than beta-prograne? Did you find beta-prograne do give more to start with?

I don't feel any sudden effects with bedranol that I did with beta prograne. I think the most important thing is to stick with the same manufacturer for consistency as there are always slight differences.

      Hi tezes

So do you find that bedranol is a smoother one than beta progrsine was?

Did you find that beta prograine gave more to start with too lije I did?

Woykd yoy say bedranol ladts the full 24 hrs at a steady rate?

Ive had such a lot of trouble dince indetal la wad discontinued.

Did it make yoy tired to start with?

      Thanks for your hekp

Yes I find them better and they do make you tired to start with but remember we are all different so what suits one person may not suit another. It's trial and error unfortunately, good luck

But would you say they are as good as inderal la?

By that I mean you are getting a steady dose throughout the 24hrs?

I am getting concerned cos dr has tried me on bisopralol 1.5 & 5mg. Atenolol 12.5 & 25mg. Thing is inderal was a non selective beta blocker. These others are catdio selective.

Yes they've stopped my heart banging but ive still got hot flushes and hot seeats cold chills and clammy cold sweats. Tingling all through my body and jelly legs.

All this started when I stopped the beya blocker Inderal

      Thanks Tezes

    Hi Rosemary,,,

I am in the exact same situation as yourself. I took Inderal 80 for 15 years so it has turned me upside down that it is discontuinued. I tried the half beta prograne but my migraines came flooding back and I felt awful. I am now on Bedranol and altough I originally thought they were working fine....I have recentely taken my very first panic attack and I am wondering if it is linked to me stopping inderal or stating Bedranol. I am feeling anxiety symptoms daily which even prior to taking beta blockers I never ever suffered from. Ive never been an anxious person in my life so this is a shock to my system! How are you getting on with your search for a suitable replacement for Inderal?

Oh dear I am so sorry to hear about your panic attack.

So far I've had no success in finding a suitable replacement for the Inderal LA.

I've tried swapping mine from.morning to night.

I always took Inderal in the mornings and it lasted the full 24hrs but when it was discontinued I changed to Beta-prograne. I took it in the same way. But found after a few weeks, that the banging heart I was waking up in the night with wad because it had run out.

So I started taking it at night. I now find that I'm getting the banging heart from about 4pm so it must be running out then. So it must last about 14-16hrs.

When I first changed from Inderal I started feeling anxious, though like you. I'd never suffered from being anxious in my life. I also had a feeling of loss of motivation on the day ans my head would feel weird until about 5-6pm then I'd feel normal in my head but the anxious feelings would start. It's almost like withdrawal symptoms.

I am also finding that since stopping the Inderal I am getting hot flushes especially in the evenings. Again this must be because it's run out since taking it at night.

Im too afraid to try bedranol as my friend has been suffering major anxiety and panic attacks since bring put on.it.

Have you asked tour Dr for an alternative slow release beta blocker??

If you do find one that will last 24hrs as Inderal did would you please let me know???

Likewise, if I find one I'll let you know.

My Dr did try me on 10mg immediate release propranolol but oh my goodness. They were horrendous

    Hi again,

When I tried the beta prograne I never noticed it causing any effects on me....except for my migraines came flooding back and it did not seem to have the same workings with me as the Inderal had. I took it back and forth a few times (using inderal I had left in between) and each time my migraines would cease when I started using the Inderal again. So I spoke to my GP and he said they wee all the same drug and he was confused that I noticed a difference between the two. So I am now taking Bedranol and well....I honestly do not know what to think on it. I took a panic attack for the first time since starting it....and at times I am getting feelings of breathlessness and racing heart rate. Yet......Today I have taken it and feel fine! Weird. So I have got a blood pressure/ heart rate monitor and I am going to take Inderal, half beta prograne and Bedranol on different days and record how I feel on paper and what my heat rate etc is at diff points through out the day till I see whats going on. The Benedrol definately seem to cause anxiety at times but they do keep my migraines away. I cannot stand that feeling of anxiety though and wont be continuing to take a drug thats causing that! If need be I will go back on the beta prograne and possibly talk to the doctor about different amounts of it? If you say it is lasting 14 hours roughly.....Maybe you need a pill in morning and again at bedtime? I have read that your can take Inderal and Bedranol 160 slow release a day as these are marketed and prescribed to people....and if 2x80 slow release beta prograne is what is needed then I would try that. Has your doctor suggested that? If you feel yourself it running out in your body then withdrawal effects maybe another pill at bedtime the perfect soloution?

      Hi again.

Do you notice how long after you've taken the bedranol the anxiety feelings start up?

I'm wondering if they are actually starting when it's running out.

I only say this because my Dr says my pounding heart is anxiety. But I said I've never suffered from anxiety. He says that the Inderal could have been masking anxiety.

But personally I think it's an interdose withdrawal effect.

If you look.up withdrawal of beta blocker you'll see almost first on.the list is anxiety.

      Palpitations are also withdrawals.

Please keep in touch with me and let me know your findings with your experiment.

      Best wishes

YeaI definately think it is when they are running out......as it usually happens just when I take them in the morning....but obviouusly they probably have a longer time to hit you as they are slow release so it is probably symptoms from withdrawel I am feeling. I am thinking that the beta prograne and the bedranol are just not as superior coatings / additives etc as the Inderal.....and that they go too quick into your bloodstream and run out too quick! Sooooo....I am thinking maybe 2 tabs will be needed. The bedranol definately keep my migraines away better than the beta prograne.....so I am liking them better..but I am taking them every day just now monitoring my blood pressure and heart rate...and if need be I will try out the beta prograne again. If I definately see that it is a withdrawel effect through them running out too soon I will go to docs and ask him if I could take 2 tablets...a day....pity you cant get the slow release in 40mg to take before bed!! Hmm....We are like amatuer scientists here eh :-)

      Hi dibaby

Have you noticed how long it takes after you've taken the bedranol for all your symptoms to go?

I reckon with mine. It takes a good 4 hours for them to kick in.

I start getting the hot flushes and pounding heart about 4pm.

I take mine at about 9.30-10pm and my heart us still pounding at 1am. It eases off by 2am and then I can get to sleep finally.

So basically I am getting withdrawals for about 10hrs until they kick in again.

So by my rough reckoning they actually take 4-4.5 hrs to start working.

Nothing like Inderal were. Inderal did have more expensive superior coatings and were 97P per tablet. Bedranol is about 6P per tablet and Beta-prograne are 23p per tablet.

U wonder if another slow release beta blocker would work for the full 24hrs. Something like atenolol?

When are you going back to Dr's?

If you want to talk to me I can let you have my phone number

      Best wishes
