Has anyone gone SCUBA diving with TGN?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have had TGN for about a year and it is generally under control with carbamazepine (Tegritol?) Next week I am going to St Lucia where I hope to SCUBA ( I haven't dived for 2 years)

Does anyone have any experience with TGN and diving?/

Thanks

    Hi Wayne

I have dived many times with TGN - I am on Tegretol too - I am not sure how experienced a diver you are as you don't say. I'm a PADI Advanced diver with well over 100 dives all over the world including the UK (drysuit qualified) and Cuba which was interesting, but that's not many dives by some standards! But, I can say - for me - my TGN has always felt better after diving than before - maybe it's something to do with the clearing out of the eustachian tubes (salt water bilateral washout!) I don't know.

However, and this is something you should watch out for, is not biting hard on your Regulator. Keep those jaw muscles relaxed. And, I am sure I don't need to tell you - take your time descending and ascending especially the first 5 metres going down and the last 5 metres coming up, this is where the biggest change in pressure happens - get your equalisation sorted properly, don't force it

Hope that helps? Have a good holiday.

    Hi, Wayne

Sorry to hear about your TN diagnosis. I have not have any experience with TN and Scuba to know how that would affect it, however, i can only guess that pressure changes in diving can trigger nerve responses that might lead to an attack.  My triggers were , cold air ( Winds), chewing, water touching the face while washing, brushing teeth etc etc.  All the typical triggers that most people with TN experience.  I have posted my experiences here. To view it, just click on my name and you should be able to see my posts.  Hope your trip goes pain free. Feel free to ask any questions.
