I had a revision a couple of years ago but not because of the disc. I have PVNS and the tumor ate around the prosthesis and caused it to come loose. The doc lifted it out with his finger tips it was so loose. Actually the revision was better than the original in some ways. My foot always opened up sent when I walked and put a strain on my hip and lower back. With the revision, I stepped out straight. I've had other problems but not directly because of the revision. I fell the day after surgery and broke my femur which has caused a whole series of things. The recovery process from the revision is exactly the same as the original. They have to do the same cutting using the original incision point so the same soft tissue is redamaged. The more repetitive damage to the area it just takes a little bit extra to get the ligaments and tendonscto streatch. The big thing, you'll have the insight to know what's going on. At least in my part of the world there are a couple of new twists in pain management and the approach to do therapy, both positives

    Best of luck

You have been through a lot. I'm very worried about having this revision

as my first knee replacement didn't go very well and I never really had a pain free time.  wish you all the best

One thing to think about.......they have made some really big changes in the joint itself. My new one is more oblong and replicates the the movement of your own knee. The movement of my new one is much smoother and my walk is straighter causing far less wear and tear on the hip and back. My original let my foot turn out in a strange way now I stride straight. Downside.........you have to go through the same recovery. I wish you well

It sure is.  She first had her right knee done a number of years ago and all was fine.  Then 8 years ago she had her left knee done, but developed a staph infection.  They had to remove the replacement, clear the infection, then replace again.  She continued to have trouble.  This last surgery they discovered she has an allergy to nickel so they used more of a ceramic replacement.  The surgeon is hoping this is the last time!  I'm sure she does too since rehab is the same with each.  UGH!

I had staph but they only had to take out the disc. Then flushed it, tossed in a bag of antibiotics, sewed me up, put in a PICC line so I could do the infusion for a couple of months, now on oral antibiotics the rest of my life. They were leaving the option open to having to replace the prosthesis. I know one guy that had that happen to and they had to leave the prosthesis out for several weeks till the infection cleared then reopen and put in the new one. Every time I think I'm in bad shape I look around and there's someone worse. There's that old saying " I complained because I didn't have nice shoes, then I saw a man with no feet"
