Has anyone had a stress test while newly diagnosed with hyperthyroid?

My mom is scheduled for a stress test this Tuesday. She recently went to the ER for chest discomfort and had an abnormality on her ECG - ST depression in inferior leads. She has been so worried over that and has also found out her thyroid levels are off - overactive. Well, she was reading about how stress tests can be dangerous when you have hyperthyroid. She isn't being treated for it as of yet. Her doctor wants to re-check in 3 weeks to see if her levels go back to normal before referring her to a specialist since it has done this once before.

Yes, it can be dangerous to undertake a stress test with a possible hyperthyroid state, not so dangerous if it's hypthyroid. If I were her I 'd rethink that test. I was given thyroid medicine

for close to 5 years by my primary ( whose care I am no longer under) and when I became

hyperthyroid I stopped taking it and not a minute too soon. I've been in the hospital every

month for the last year and it turns out I never needed thyroid medicine. My primary never paid attention to the latest alert that Lab Corp repeatedly included on any lab reports stating

that if a person is taking biotin supplements, ( in large doses and I was ) it will make the lab

report (TSH and other levels related to thyroid function)look like the patient is hypothyroid,

when, in fact they are not. God knows what damage it might have done to my heart function,

only time will tell. Good luck with your mother. Take care.

Thank you for responding. That's what she read also, but her doctor keeps telling her to go through with it. She feels awful from the thyroid levels being off. I'm so sorry that you have to go through all of that. How awful that must be. Many prayers sent your way! 😃
