Has anyone had bone scans, MRI and blood tests for an ongoing painful replacement hip?

Just wondered if anyone had gone through these tests to try and get to the bottom of why 3 1/2 years on from a replacement hip they are still in pain - in my case in my groin, thigh and what I feel is the actual joint itself. Was anything found? If not did it turn out to be muscles or tendons for which a cortisone injection was given? I have never had issues with my back and can still walk but not the 15 miles I would do; at the weekend it was 7 1/2 and always to a background of some pain.

Hi Sylvie,Your situation seems similar to mine. I had a hip replacement almost three years ago but have had continuous groin pain ever since., also pain in thigh down to my knee and buttock pain but mostly groin. I have had 4 cortisone injections which made no difference, fluid taken from my hip but no infection. A bone scan & ct scan indicated it could be the psoas tendon which had been suspected earlier. A 3D print was produced . This week I am having a pre op (second) before surgery to release the psoas tendon.

Hi Mary
Yes, your issues do appear to be similar to mine so thank you for replying. Interesting that you had a bone scan, perhaps 3, which is what I am down for, one of which is a SPECT CT scan. I think this is what you mean when you talk about a 3D print. Next week perhaps I will find out more! Tomorrow I'm going for a 'taster' in our local private hospital, as it was called when booked, to see if I can have an MRI scan. I am extremely claustophobic so I'm trying hard not to think about it. I believe that before anyone knew what was wrong with my hip I had a scan on my hip which was done with my eyes just out of the scanner looking at the ceiling. However the hospital doctor ignored me on this point.
I have been to an NHS physio which was hopeless and paid to see three privately, one was in lockdown so on Zoom. She considered it might be my gluteus medius so I have been doing the exercises she gave me. I did pilates for over 20 years so the exercises were known to me. I also did off road running and swam a lot.
This morning as a result of my recent hospital visit a physio phoned me and we had a very long chat. She feels it could be inflammation in the hip and thigh area. After 3 1/2 years it will be very entrenched so I have to take painkillers for the next fortnight, be very gentle with my hip, stop the exercises I was doing, use ice or heat on the basis that the inflammation needs to be tackled before exercises are introduced. If she is right, perhaps I even have your problem with the psoas tendon which does seem to cause problems for some people. I am hoping I have the right idea about the bone scans and inflammation of the tendons might show up.
So am I right in thinking that if I should have something wrong with my tendons this will show up on the bone scans? The doctor mentioned looking for an infection but I forget which scan would show that - MRI or bone. I just want to be out of continuous discomfort/pain and to be able to forget I even had a replacement which seems to be what happens generally.
