Has anyone had laser sphincterotomy and laser fissurectomy? What was the post op recovery like

hi everyone. A surgeon I consulted has recommended laser surgery (LIS and fissurectomy) for a chronic fissure I have had for the past 8 years. I am petrified at the prospect of the post operative pain. Has anyone experienced laser surgery? your experiences will greatly help!

Yes, I had it done a few years ago. Mine was successful with little pain after surgery. However, after two years my problem came back, though not as severe as before. I have found it's all about the food we eat.
I wish you all the best for a quick recovery and no more pain.
Karen.

thanks so much for your reply Karen. sorry to hear that it recurred. 😔 your message gives me some courage though... I am thinking of going through with it, have had it for a long time. sorry if its TMI but I did want to know- if there's an open wound where they clean out the fissure? I also need to have a skin tag removed and am worried about bowel movements after surgery. the surgeon says i can go back to work the next day but I am a little skeptical about that...

Hope18778, As to going back to work the next day, only if you have a standing job not have to sit down all day. Make sure the doc gives you some pain medication to help you over the days after surgery, you may not need it but have it on hand in case you have some bad days.
It’s very important to make sure you don’t get constipated after surgery. After surgery, I was black and blue for about ten days but it did not hurt and it went away.
In my case, I can't eat foods that make for a clumpy stool it has to come out narrow and soft. I've had to make changes to my diet. All those products one hears about that have lots of fiber do not work for me it just clumped me up. I now rely on fruit for breakfast, try and see what works for you.
As an aside, I would not wish this on my worst enemy. Fissures can be pure hell to live with.
Best wishes to you.
