Sadly I’m divorced and I provide only income in Home. Not been in new job long enough to have any additional sick pay. Used Annual Leave and full paid sick leave up. Only doing 3 hrs a day for three days then 4 hrs day next week then bk full time.

4 weeks is very early to return to work even part time. I was off work for 6 months with each knee. I was 135+ bend and 0 straight. I think 4 weeks is far too early to return to work. You cant walk properly with -25 straightening. Your knee has to last a long time, so give it time to heal correctly. With the medications your on is it safe for you to work?.

I won’t be driving I’m now off of Oral morphine and changing Zapain for Paracetemol extra. So should be fine. I’ll have to rest when not at work. It’s office based so nothing strenuous.

I would stick with two crutches personally. And is there an option not to go back to work, seems too soon. That pain needs reduction so you can do some gentle exercising. Are you doing a lot of walking on it?

Is it possible for you to seek a professional opinion from where you had it done as to what you are experiencing?

      Hi Jenny

Thanks for your reply. No option as I really do need to return to work. I’ve gone back onto two crutches until I see Physio tomorrow night. I’m only walking around the house. I go upstairs and down twice a day and just Potter really and elevate. I’ve got a leg rest ready in the office. I honestly think that the mental stimulation will help me. I appreciate everyone’s advise and support. I will take it slow and easy. I’ll just have a phone and computer in front of me instead of s book or the tv

Yes, if you are all kitted out at work and well accommodated, it is good to have another focus... mental stimulation is helpful. Good healing to you!

    Hi trees1234,

I have had a high tibea osteotomy to both of my knees with a gap of about 3.5 months inbetween operations. I was told that the operations should of held of the TKR for approximately 10 years, but

My right knee was a real mess inside ,and the Surgeon was unsure how long it would last , he was still reluctant to give me a knew knee because of my age, ( 50 ) at the time, and the fact that I have a heavy manual job. Unfortunately the pain got worse with both of my inside joints, and 3 years later,in January 2017,the plates and screws were removed, from both legs . When they healed over ,I had my RHS TKR done in April 2017 ,and my LHS TKR  in September 2017, (tough year), still having pain behind my RHS knee , but it's  getting better slowly, my left knee is much better and almost pain free.

I try and ride my bike about 5 miles a night, and walk about 2 to 3 miles if possible every day, and now I'm gradually getting back to work ,but being careful what I take on!

This Forum has been a great help to myself and a great deal of other people I'm sure, great information from Chico Marx and others , all who have actually gone through the different and similar, problems that we have and are going through! Keep being positive, and remember it's a long healing time ,and your not alone!

Thankyou Andrew, I have had mine done together so feel a little confused at times as recovery tips for TKR differ to Osteotomy at times. One is full weight bearing one is remaining on crutches longer. To be honest I don’t know which to follow. I’m 5 weeks post op now I’m joining a gem in next few weeks and I will begin swimming. Had bad two days which has set me back a little. Thank you for replying.

      Hi trees1234,

from what you have said about your situation, I'm not sure how your expected to deal with having what sounds like two separate operations. When I had my H T O operations I had to have a frame on my leg 24 hours a day ,with a range of no weight Bering, partial weight Bering, then full weight Bering, over a six week period, and it wasn't very pleasant, but I know it was an essential part of the healing process, so I can really understand your predicament,  I know it must be really difficult for you at this moment in time, but hang in there , you will get through it!!!
