Has anyone had success with Trintellix?

It's been a while since I posted, my update is I've been on Alprazolam(Xanax) for nearly two months now and have seen various psychologists, I do talk therapy at least once a week, guided meditation in the morning, walk at least 20 minutes every night, and have cut out all fried, fast, and overtly sugary foods (never had caffeine to begin with). The prescription my GP wrote for my anxiety is the 1mg Alprazolam to take one or two pills three times daily. 1mg is really strong - it certainly takes away anxiety/panic but also makes me too drowsy to function. Breaking the pill in half barely takes the edge off and I'll still feel very anxious, and have even had panic attacks in what I find to be stressful situations (I have learned I suffer from some agoraphobia along with panic disorder, GAD, and possibly PTSD). My routine has become a half pill in the morning, full in the afternoon, half again in the evening for a total of 2mg a day which I think is relatively safe, but it's obviously not practical or effective. A big trigger for my anxiety is any GI problems like nausea, vomitting, and diarrhea, so I refused seeking out antidepressants until I saw that I am not getting any better with the changes I've made so far and got desperate.

I saw a psychiatrist who first did gene testing after hearing about how anxious I was about side effects, and with results in about two weeks later he gave me samples of the multimodal antidepressant Trintellix (Vortioxetine, formally known as Brintellix). It's fairly new and the FDA has only approved it for major depressive disorder but I guess it's commonly prescribed for GAD as well. I'm now on day four of taking the 5mg pill, and after two weeks I'm supposed to up it to the 10mg. So far I have only been even more anxious, I don't know if it's because of the fear associated with taking the new medicine, that I have had some stomach pain and diarrhea, or that it releases norepinephrine, which I was conserned about before even starting it because I'm already agitated/nervous much of the time and don't need that extra "boost" to get myself out of bed. But yeah, even more anxious sad. I'm not giving up on it yet because it's early in the game and I really really really hope that it will stablize me so that I'll only need the Xanax in rare/emergency situations, but yeah, back to the title, has anyone here tried Trintellix and found it to be helpful for their anxiety? Thanks guys.

I cannot say much about your medication or how it works all I will say however is it may take four weeks to work well. I would imagine that is why the Doctor will increase the half dose at about four weeks.

All I can say is we are in the UK and have not heard about this medication I will need to read up about it if I can.

I need to say however we are not Doctors just patients so we would bow to your Doctors use and script of this new drug

If you need to chat or gain support you know where we are

    Hi nellie,

Alprazolam actually is drug of choice for panic /  anxiety dis orders where other treatment fails. I have been on alprazolam for nearly 20 years I'd have to say, they broke my panic cycle and got me out of the house, they broke the agoraphobia stage, I was on 1Mg 3 times a day. A word of warning though, they are very addictive and withdrawal symptoms aren't very nice if you aren't weaned off them properly, I'm coming off them now and experiencing rebound anxiety but that should pass hopefully in a week or 2.

People have different opinions about anti depressants, some swear by them and others say they don't work at all with anxiety, me personally I am one of those people that think they don't help with panic / anxiety dis orders, I had just about tried them all to no avail that's why I was put on alprazolam, it was the last option. Even some counsellors, psychologists and psychiatrists tend to agree that anti depressants have no effect of panic / anxiety, they are mainly for other mental health issues.

Anti depressants generally take 2 - 4 weeks to work if they are suited to you, I found that if you are having increased panic in the first  2 weeks then that drug isn't going to work, that's just my opinion and what I had experienced, though, remember everyone is different. I have severe side effects to all anti depressants.

I did get a prescription of Klonopin too for anxiety but have not filled it yet, curious too see if this Trintellix pill will work. I'll let you know, OK? marti

How is your anxiety now on trintellix?

I just came upon this thread. I've been on Trintellix for a month now, for anxiety,  and I've noticed that it does activate me to have some underlying anxiety again. I used to be on Zoloft, which really helped with anxiety, but it made me somewhat tired and I felt I was gaining weight from it. So he's trying me on Trintellix instead (I also take Wellbutrin.) Today he upped my dose of Trintellix to 10 mg because he said it works better for anxiety at higher doses. I've just taken the genetics test to see which med will work best for me also, and am awaiting the results. Another side effect I've noticed from Trintellix is nausea. I'm hoping that goes away after time. The jury is still out for me on this Med, as my main goal is to get rid of my anxiety. How has your trial been with it after all this time?

How are things going with the trentillix? I’m also on wellbutrin and my doctor has prescribed trentillix too but I haven’t started taking it yet.

I have been on Trentillex now for 6 day at 5mg. The nausea is there for sure. So I stopped by my doctor to ask what to do because I have been nervous before going to be, and when I wake up. I wasn't sure whether to move up to 10mg or what. So, They told me to go ahead up to 10mg, and the nurse stated that most people like to take it at bed time, that way it is in your system, and working when you wake up and most don't have the stomach related problems. So, I am going to do start that tonight. She also reiterated that it can take  up to a month to kick in and work properly. One thing that made me feel better when initially talked to the doctor was that he said this works on 5 different receptors at a lower level than other meds do on only a couple of receptors.

Just wondered if you're still taking the Trintellix and if it's helping your anxiety. I have some samples, but haven't tried it yet.

Anita, I've been on trintellix for 6 months or so. It has really worked wonders for my anxiety. I do get nausea if I take it on an empty stomach, so I always wait to take it with food. I can also safely take it if I'm drinking coffee with milk. I guess the milk coats my stomach enough. I also have depression, and the trintellix hasn't helped in that area. I just started taking Wellbutrin with the Trintellix and have noticed a positive difference after only three days. I do think I'm highly sensitive to psych meds in general, because I always notice a difference right away. I'm doing 20mg Trintellix, and 150mg Wellbutrin right now. Next week, I'll bump up the Wellbutrin to 300mg/day. Good luck!!!
