Has anyone had worse environmental allergies with PMR despite pred?

I am allergic to dust, tree pollen and mold. It seems my allergies are much worse since I have PMR. My breathing issues were the worst ever. We are trying to figure out whether it's really allergic or the breathlessness pred side effect. Steroid inhaler hardly helps but bronchodilator helps somewhat.

That your allergies are worse since PMR figures - but that pred doesn't help really doesn't. I'd suspect breathlessness as a side efect of pred.Your steroid inhaler is just adding to the pred dose.

Eileen, my pulmonary and  I discussed just that possibility so I stopped using that inhaler after tapering it. My breathing got so bad and I need the rescue bronchodilator 4x a day with unsatisfactory relief. I was put on a combination inhaler( long acting bronchodilator/ yet a different synthetic steroid) with decent relief. I also take an antihistamine.

I am on 10 3/4 pred; diagnosed Dec 2015- 15 mg pred starting dose.

I have an appt. with an experienced allergist Nov 7.

I wonder if a different oral steroid might make a difference then? That might be worth a thought or two.

And are they absolutely sure what you have is PMR? It couldn't be another problem which manifests as PMR-type symptoms could it? Even what we discuss here as PMR isn't the real disease - it is most probably the symptoms of an underlying autoimmune disorder.

Will be intersting to hear what the allergist says.

Eileen, I have been seeing a board certified rheumatoid since the beginning, had a battery of all the up-to -date rheumatic disease tests and had a fantastic response to only 15 of pred. My tapering has been uneventful since then but always had breathing allergies before pred. Tested allergic to mold, tree pollen and dust mites. I had mold infestation in my home and even had the structure excavated, waterproofed and decontaminated. On days when air is dry and mold count low I feel well.

      Go figure.

I am wondering if I have LORA with pulmonary symptoms. My fingers seem to be getting more crooked almost overnight .

I sent a message to my rheumatologist.

I was just examined by my rheumatologist who indicated that my crooked fingers do not involve the joints affected by RA; I have "degenerative arthritis" of the distal joints.

Otherwise known as old age... The distal knuckle on my right index finger has delightfull Henerden's nodes - just there, nowhere else. Makes wearing gloves challenging...

      Heberden's...

No I know what those are; the joint just below the nail is bending sideways on some fingers not the main finger joints. Those are perfectly straight and small.

I wonder why now. Is the pred causing degeneration of that distal joint?

Eileen, I've had the nodes for many years. No X-rays but I will take a photo with my phone. I suspect it's from 37 years giving anesthetics with a death grip on the face mask(at times). I see my rheumy every 2 months and can usually get an appt. the same day- like today if needed.

I have had so many X-ray starting at age 11 for scoliosis and others including CAT scans I don't want another unless absolutely needed.

Hi Karenj...What dose are you on?  When I was on higher doses, around 60 or 40 or 30, I went through a period of kind of severe sinus issues and I don't usually have allergies.  Maybe the Prednisone just increased your allergies...or maybe it is just from the Prednisone.  I had may side effects but breathlessness wasn't one of them although I've read that others have that. I do get out of breath when walking or exerting myself though.
