What makes you think this happened to you?
It is possible, but very rare.

I 1st got cold sores in Oct and they have not gone away. it's a constant recurring thing. so it is most definetly possible I've touched my cold sore and touched my genitals.
I had a breakout of follicultius and burning. which apparently was nothing, but it had been 5 months since I 1st got a cold sore.
I had a cold sore during this time because my Dr wouldn't listen to me I kept checking, touching and taking photos.
THAN I got extreme vaginal burning, nerve pain in my bun and legs, redness now itching. I did get my period 2 days after the nerve pain now it's just red and irritated and still BURNING but no obvious lesions yet.

actually you can in the early stages of the virus. within the first 6 months or so.
its called autoinoculation. you can spread it to your fingers/eyes ect.
