Has anyone managed to lose weight whilst taking celexa?

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi Everyone, I have put on over 40lbs of weight since being on Amitryptyline and Citalorapram, have managed to lose 10lbs since tapering off amit, but its taken 6 months. Celexa makes me gain weight. Can anyone offer me any tips in addition to exercise and reducing calories, that has helped you. By the way I have to be careful with not over doing the exercise as my meds have contributed to muscle weakness and amitryptyline masked a progressive injury and I ended up on crutches and have only just recovered, took 3 months.

Ignore my reply silly question, off course it would include potatoes.

Am now cutting those out. Have you reduced the good carbs like brown rice?

The only good carb to eat is brown rice ..all the other brown carbs are a no-no..no starchy foods what's so ever..only carrots..all of the green veggies allowed ..no white veggies..all the red veggies allowed..no fruits..the only fruit allowed is tomatoes..all the meats allowed..

    Hey Paula,

Just do walking and drink 8oz of water 30 min before dinner. It makes your body fill up. Cut down on carbs. Eat more blueberries ,apples.

    Hey Paula,

At dinner fix your plate with your food and that’s it. Each time you take a bite of food put your fork down and take a drink of water and repeat until your finished. I went to a nutritionist and she taught me that. It took discipline on my part but it worked. I lost about 40 lbs in 6-7 months.

I’ve also have replaced my dinner plate and used a dessert plate.

    Hi Paula,

I like to start my day off with overnight oats, so I soak oats and milk (almond or soya) with honey and cinnamon overnight, and I like to add flaxseed too. In the morning I’ll top with fruits such as banana, strawberries, or any other berries. The oats are really filling but healthy. Or sometimes I’ll have scrambled eggs with spinach. Definitely cut down on white pasta and white bread. Sweet potato is great when you’re trying to lose weight/be healthy. I also avoid eating red meat on a daily basis as it makes me feel bloated and sluggish.

I use to eat all that you just mentioned and go to the gym..and still gain 40pounds...but ever since I cut out all carbs and sugars I lost 35..

Thank you Star I love your diet. I eat oats, flaxseed, berries, scrambled egg too, and do not eat red meat.

My weakness is white carbs, since being on both meds have craved them like crazy. Thankfully since tapering off Amit, I actually got my feeling full back again and am no longer always hungry, weighed myself this morning and my total loss is now 13lbs, its taken 6 months.

Love bananas, but unfortunately they are not good for migraines.

My head is still heavy, but for the first time in 5 weeks, I have managed to do some gardening, am chuffed to bits. X

I can imagine. I’m quite short so if I put on even a little bit of weight I feel it straightaway. I’ve been trying to eat a bit more since being unwell with anxiety as I’ve noticed my mood gets really low and I feel dizzy if I’m too hungry, but I feel like I eat too much if that makes any sense. Got to do some exercise tomorrow I think

Your spot on re carbs and sugar. I do like my fruit, so am going to do some research. Hopefully berries and strawberries will be ok. Am going to miss my oranges. Have to work out some meals, went to get some lunch today, and everything in my cupboard is banned, so will fill up with eggs and my low sugar beans, is this what my life has come to ha!😊

You’re welcome 🤗 oh I love white carbs, especially white bread, I could eat it all day, but I don’t lol.

That’s so good, you’ve lost lots of weight, well done! 👍🏼 What was the Amit for if you don’t mind me asking..? I’ve never heard of this medication before.

Lovely, it’s been a nice day to be out gardening ??🌻 x

Hi Star its amitryptline an old fashioned anti depressant given to me for insomnia. Awful med, withdrawals horrendous. I am only on 2.5mg and that teeny amount makes me drowsy how scary is that.

      Lovely day today 😊

Oh of course it is, sorry 🙈 that’s a very low amount, I’m shocked it’s making you feel like that.

I agree, it is awful, I took 2 tablets of amitryptilyne (10mg) back in the winter,  the doctor said it would help with sleep, but ironically it gave me the most horrific insomnia and heart palpitations. I had to take Diazepam to start sleeping again and calm down.

You’re doing really well though, keep going ??
