Posted , 210 users are following.

I had one on September 10th, 2014 and would love to compare notes with anyone else that has had one.   Thank You.  ChuckP   PS Some people just call it a "PAE" for short.

Nealpros, it is too early to comment on sexual side effects but I will update as time goes on. Others that have the procedure have had positive results though.

Is drinking beer out of the question after PAE?

Drink away that is not a problem.  The only thing you can't do after a PAE is rob banks.

True, but at least after a PAE, you'll likely be able to use the bathroom at the bank...

    Hi Folks

I haven't seen anything about the risks of the procedure – surely it is not risk free. I have spoken to two consultant urologists who have both (predictably) poured scorn on the procedure and hinted there were potential issues.

Also what is the effect of having a 'dead' prostate thereafter? Surely there must be some effect on sexual function at least. Are there any longer term dangers/risks?

Mike you're right about the predictable part. The urologists are terrified of this procedure...it threatens the gravy train and Prostate industry they have established.

I plan to have a PAE shortly. From my research it seems to have the least side effects of any other procedure. No incontinence , impotence or retrograde ejaculation.

I have had another part of my body embolised about 25 years ago. I had a life threatening Artero venal malformation at the base of my skull. It was totally inoperable but the interventional radioligists were able to cut the blood supply feeding it and the thing died, painfully.

Proceedures have advanced light years since then and I am confident enough to give it a go. If it doesn't work I can still have a HoLEP.

      Cheers

Just for the record I had the PAE done on Sept. 10th, 2014 and now my sex life is great.  Iam off the meds of avodart and tamsulosin.  I do take 50 mg of viagra but the sex is great and the explosioin is wonderful.  No retro grade whatsoever.  Still get up nightly to pee between 3 and 4 times however.  Going to now "explore" a surgery of some kind.  If I decide to go forward with it I know ahead of time the sex life will go down the drain most likely.

According to Dr. Bagla's office in the US, only some of the blood supply to the prostate is reduced. There is enough left for it to function.

Many new procedures have come along in the past 25 years but TURP is still regarded as the Gold Standard by the majority  of urologists.

I had to fight (UK) to get a PVP in 2005 and Hilmium laser in 2013.

Urologists consider TURP the gold standard because of the gold it puts into their pockets.

Mike, I have often wondered about this so called "gold standard" . Who bestows this prestigious title? Do they have an awards night like the Oscars?....And the Gold Standard this year for Prostate procedures goes to....drum roll as envelope is opened .....TURP!!!....rapturous applause and tears.

It is obviously the cheapest operation for them to do.

Iam with you on that one brother.  When I think of what a turp does to a man it scares the crap out of me.  Why can't they come up with a procedure that preserves a mans manhood???????????????  You would think that by now after all these years somebody would invent a better way to shrink the prostate than going in and slicing and dicing the crap out of it.   I've watched a few videos on YouTube and it makes me ill.

I'm having my PAE next Wednesday. The countdown has already started. I'm on antibiotics, antihistamines and losec to help reduce stomach inflammation.

I present at the hospital on Monday and Tuesday for an IV prednisone shot ...this will hopefully reduce or prevent the severe stomach pain I had from the prednisone last time. The prednisone is to prevent potentially severe reaction to contrast dye.

On wednedsay I have the PAE starting 9am and doc has said he may have me stay overnight ...or not.

      Will keep you posted.

Good luck Caringbah!  I hope you have results as good as mine have been. Five weeks now and I feel like a new man.

I know you have been very thorough in preparing for this PAE and believe it will work out  for you. I see that there are more and more positive reports.

I really wish this site would keep all the posts in a "timely and logical order".  They seem to be very random and out of order most of the time.  Hard to follow.

Best of luck Peter - hope it all goes smoothly and you're bouncing around in no time.

We've been communicating privately so you are well aware my condition was too acute for a PAE, and that my HoLEP was really trouble-free even though my prostate was 'exceptionally' large. I will write this up in the next few days, but in the meantime I'll be thinking of you. You're going to miss those urgent events at the traffic lights...

      Best wishes

      Kerry
