Yes I have and with significant osteoporosis as well.

I am working on improving bone density with supplements and exercise.

I will know how I am going in about ten months.

Yes, I am a "refusenik." On the basis of what I've read, the bisphosphonates, as well as Prolia, are among the most dangerous drugs ever foisted on the public. Further, I question their efficacy. This isn't to say that I am under the illusion that osteoporosis isn't a troubling medical condition. I just do not believe that a viable treatment is available yet. As for alternative methods, e.g., exercise, diets, etc., personally I do not put much stock in them, though there are many others who would disagree.

Hi Allison. I have missed you. So good to hear from you!

You may be right but I am trying just in case.

Keep posting. Maybe start another thread?

Thank you, Kathleen. It is nice to be missed! I haven't meant to sound dismissive about trying alternative measures; after all, today's non-mainstream approach may be tomorrow's standard practice. I've tried a few outside-the-box approaches occasionally, myself, for (non-OP) conditions.

I've been viewing another site that has an osteoporosis forum; it's called Inspire. Don't know if you're familiar with it.

I will try to come up with a new topic for a thread.

      Best,

      Allison

You are not dismissive. You keep us grounded and you have done some pretty impressive research.

I have heard of Inspire. I get some emails from them so I will go back and look again.

      Cheers.

I have refused the drugs, and I have two friends who did increase their bone density through natural means.  They both moved from osteoporosis into osteopenia territory.  One then slacked off and has become osteoporotic again.  The other continues (says doing Nordic walking has been the most useful single thing she does, but she is into certain supplements and other exercise as well).  I asked her for proof and she said that her bone scans showed the improvement - can't ask more than that, can you!  I take heart from her experience.  I do have an additional risk she doesn't, which is having to take prednisone for polymyalgia rheumatica, but I've got my daily dose quite low now, so fingers crossed it's a lesser factor.

We need lots of studies with comparisons to make a natural way an alternative to drugs.

I am also trying to build up the muscles around the spine to help support the lumbar section in particular.

I can only do gentle exercises though.

Stress is to be avoided as well.

Even if we achieve some improvement it will be good.

There does seem to be more awareness of nutrients needed for our bones.

I wish I had done more ten plus years ago.

I started doing exercises for my core and spine many years ago when I had some issues which I thought might be a mild stroke - turned out to be nerves being impacted by spine, not sure exactly how, but I do have OA in a few vertebrae.  I think, however, this has given me a head start when it comes to dealing with this whole "low bone mass" thing!
