Has anyone regretted getting their surgery?

This is such a scary time!! I've never had any kind of surgery...and I'm wondering if anyone regrets doing their surgery ...I have horrible movement of my leg ...I can't lift it up very high maybe an inch before I get a terrible pain!! Also when I sit if I move my knee closer to my chest it hurts!! Will this pain go away when I get the surgery?

Hi Snowgirl.. I will be following your discussion. Surgery is scheduled for March  22nd. From my hip surgery class I now feel pretty comfortable with the surgery. Everyone I have spoken with knows someone who has had it and all have been thrilled to be able to walk/ ride bicycles, exercise and live pain free. I am excited about the surgery

I do not regret the surgery however I am speaking 10 months on. I did get a good dose of the hippy blues a couple of weeks after the op, which is quite common. I have none of that terrible pain and can move far more freely than I could before the op

      Hi Maggie!

I'm just curious. I am also 10 months out. I occasionally have a dull ache but not OA pain. I have to take steps one at a time and I still have a slight limp. I don't regret having the surgery whatsoever but are you at the point where you can say that you feel like you don't even know you had a hip replacement? I just think I should be way ahead of the game by now.

I do forget about it for a great deal of the time. Yea there are the odd twinges, but not all of them are hip related, possibly I am more aware of my body having learnt to listen to it in the early recovery days. The area surrounding the incision is still a bit numb, but then parts of my leg where I had an op 45 years ago are a bit numb. I think my husbands attitude to his own replacement is quite good, do what you need to, only stop if you cannot, forget about it and you will use the leg more and more naturally. That does of course only apply after a certain recovery amount/time and if there are no complications

    Hi

I had never had surgery before I had my THR and I was petrified, I was crying when they took me to theatre and I am 52, I was in so much pain and walking was very difficult I was bent over, my height is 5ft 9 when I went into hospital I had shrunk to 5ft 7 but after surgery I am now 5ft 9 again and smiling once more. I cannot believe the difference this operation has made to my life I am 5 weeks post op and so happy. Be brave and everything will be fine x

    Hi Snowgirl,

i am 18 days post op and i swear i have no regrets and i am amazed at how good i feel already. Yes my leg is sore but nothing compared to the pain before. Everyday i am improving and my leg is getting stronger. I know its scary but hang in there and i promise you will be amazed at how good you feel. My only regret is i should have done it sooner.

The only regret I have is being a coward and not doing it sooner, i have been lucky and have had a really easy time after the first two weeks. The pain you are in now goes, i was scared of that but once you wake up your life has changed.

I have had moments when I think that I could have soldiered on for a bit longer with my dodgy hip before getting the op.  I could still walk OK and do most things but couldn't do a lot of activities which I used to enjoy such as cycling and going to the gym. I am 53 and thought that I would like to have the ability to do these things for a long while yet so I had the op.  I am 17 days in and in the first week I really thought I had made a big mistake. However I can now see the improvements over the last few days and although I dont yet have the strength back in my leg and it can still feel heavy and swollen in the evenings I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I am confident I have made the right decision.
