Has anyone's hearing decreased since beginning treatment?

I do have a hearing problem and wear hearing aids, but I find that my hearing has decreased, speech is not clear, almost like I'm in a haze.  I wonder if aniyone out there has had a similar problem?

    Hi,

i felt the same way and went for a hearing test which came out to be in the normal range but I know I'm not hearing as well as I used to.  Also, I have tennitis in one ear.

I started with a humming in my left ear about 2 months ago after a mild cold. My dr said it was a blocked eustation tube and put me on antibiotics. My rheum said she didn't think it was a side effect of the prednisone. I still have it. I've tried all the home remedies on-line as well. I'm just hoping it will go away eventually.

I don't normally have a hearing problem unless my ears need syringing but I have what I surmise is tinnitus which has caused a frustrating decrease in my hearing. It came with the PMR / prednisolone!

I have been on prednisone for 1.5 years and about 2 months ago developed tennitis.  For me, it's a hissing sound in both ears.  It has not subsided or increased since it started.  Oh well.

That's exactly what it is like. I have been on prednisolone for 7 months.

Yes, I had a lot of tinnitus near the beginning of my PMR. It exacerbated with the use of NSAIDs which the doctor had me using every other day. It slowly decreased over time most likely from the decrease in prednisone ( got off the NSAIDs completely because of tinnitus, and because they didn't work). The haze you mentioned has disappeared since I'm off the prednisone. The doctors seemed unconcerned, but those symptoms drove me crazy at the time.

Thank you for your response.  YIes, they do drive me crazy, and I'm so glad you said theyi disappeared after decreasing prednison.  My eyes and ears are driving me nuts (deaf).  I keep asking my husband to repeat shat he says.  Voices on the telephone are hazy.  I guess this too shall pass!  Eli

I had an appointment with the audiologist at the NHS audiology dept. yesterday so I asked her if PMR or Prednisolone affected hearing and she said not as far as she was aware.

They do not know everything, and it seems so many professional people are NOT aware of all of the side effects of prednisone.  Like Eileen said previously in another communication, there are about at least 92 different side effects of prednisone.  I definitely bekeve that!  Eli

I do think it's strange that the professionals don't really get it about prednisone or PMR.

I agree.  They become too departmentalized, not broad enough.
