i am really struggling with my fibro. The doc has told me to persevere with this tablet. He has also gave me an anti sickness tablet. I would like to know people's experiences with this please.

I haven't taken it but was prescribed it and did a lot of reading about people's experiences, sickness was the most mentioned but most people did say after a couple of weeks the sickness went away.

Thank you for getting back to me. I did try it a long time ago and I am sure it did cause sicky feeling. I lasted about 6 weeks and gave up but the doc said I really need to give it at least 3 months. I hate the thought if it but I am in so much pain and discomfort that I need to try it again.

A little confused on the medicine you are suppose to perseve and the anti sickness tablet. Duloxetine is Cymbalta. I don't see it helping or doing anything, but we are all different.

DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Duloxetine is a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) antidepressants used for treating depression, anxiety disorder, and pain. Other drugs in this class include milnacipran (Savella), venlafaxine (Effexor), and desvenlafaxine (Pristiq). Duloxetine affects neurotransmitters, the chemicals that nerves within the brain make and release in order to communicate with one another. Neurotransmitters either travel across the space between nerves and attach to receptors on the surface of nearby nerves or they attach to receptors on the surface of the nerves that produced them, to be taken up by the nerve and released again (a process referred to as re-uptake).

I have to take Duloxetin for 2/3 months to be able to say wither it helps or not and if I feel sickly on them I have to take anti sickness tablets.

There is also savella which is a similar drug but some people get on better more with one or the other.

Good luck, I hope it works for you, I read a lot of reviews on both and they did seem to help a lot of people.

Hi aabb; yes I, too was given the chance of taking Duloxitine (as this and Lyrica are supposed to be "the" drug/s for Fibro), but all it did for me, as I have said to others, is "made me cry constantly for No reason"....I trialled it for a few days, had a break, and then trialled again, with same result...and no pain relief..............there are so many other drugs/meds out there that have helped many of us with Fibro, such as Amitriptilline and Gabapentin......some have success (as do I) with these, others not.....but if you are not happy with what you are taking, ask for a referral to a Rhuematologist (if you havn't already been), and Really ask for ALL the information that you can (and research the different sites on the Web for info.....you will find causes/treatments and medications that are useful)....and keep trialling them until you find what works for you....(yes, we do need to give each a few weeks or so, to see if they are any good for us......need to get the medications into our system); but I don't think we should have to take anti-nausea drugs when there are other meds out there that also work..............good luck...................Bron

Or you can be lucky like me and get on Cymbalta and Lyrica and just keep getting higher doses. Lyrica is horrible for me, I sit there with a pro and con list why should I take it daily and nightly. Reason is because of the type of medicine , you can not just stop. Although it has messed with my brain to where I just stop in sentence and or thougfht and often forgetting ever saying anything.

Morning diagnosisisalie; yep.....the "loss of thought patterns" is something we all go through, and yes, we do find it very embarrassing for others think we are/have "lost our minds"......we know what we want to say, but "It" just doesn't seem to come out as we want/mean it to................I don't think it's so much to do with the meds, but the Fibro itself !!....it is mentioned in the list of symptoms of "loss of Cognitive Behaviour"....I go through stages of this (even when typing here on this forum)......as for "getting off the meds of Lyrica/Cymbalta (Duloxitine), if you have been taking for some time, this maybe the case, as I feel that they do have some form of anti-depressant in them, but I had only trialled the Duloxitine for a few days at a time, and with the Crying, stopped/went straight off......I guess if I tried to stop my other meds that I rely on (the Gabapentin and Amitriptylline) it maybe different??.............I am truly concerned for you, as you are having sooo many issues to deal with and don't seem to be getting anywhere.............and hence back to aabb, I guess that you are by now, re-thinking whether to continue your Duloxitine, or trial something else???..............hoping that you both can get through today???..........Bron

Thanks for the info. I am so lucky that I have a husband that goes to all my medical doctors, and chauffers me around. We usually talk about how we feel about what the doctor said or did and if we agree or not. I know that I am going to try to avoid going to the RA at all cost . I am going to try the pain management route. I will continue doing testing as my gp orders and pray that we can get more info in treatment for me. I have a life and this is not acceptable in my book , I refuse to take medicine for the rest of my life, I am 38, I have so much that I am meant to do . Then on top of it for the medicine that they keep uppering , doesn't work. No More, billing my insurance company for a service that I am not getting in relief of pain .

    Hi aabb

I am on Duloxetine at the moment I had already tried other meds in the same category but with severe side effects.  We were scraping the bottom of the barrel with this one.  I am on 60mg at moment and it works very well.  You have to persevere with it sickness usually wears off after a couple of weeks I have been on this medication for 3 years now and it has helped me.

If you do take duloxetine (cymbalta) please be aware you will have to come off it gradually as you may get some nasty side effects if you come off it too quickly.  You do not say what dose you have either.

I went to a pain clinic and they prescribed duloxatine 30mg   1 tablet taken at night

I had no side effects at all and they have now increased it to 60mg

They also prescribed Melatonin 2mg   1 at night.   It is a natural hormone plant extract that helps sleep

I also have solpadol 60mg which helps with the pain that keeps waking you up

Melatonin you can also get on the internet from astro nutrition

    Hope this helps you cope!
