Has anyone tried Estrace?

I just started taking Estrace .5 mg 2 days ago. I also take 200 mg of prometrium. I feel so much better. My moods have been stable, no depression....not even a gloomy thought! I'm pleasantly shocked and wondering if others had similar results and if it was temporary or permanent?

What does Estrace used for? How often do you take prometrium?

Hi Tracy, Estrace is a bioidentical estrogen. I take the Prometrium, which I started taking in January, once a day.

I'm 47 and still have periods and want to try HRT. Was the .5 estrace and 200 promethium starting point for you then u will adjust? How did they know to start it there?

Hi CCinCal, Actually, my dr. started me on Prometrium 100 mg. (which might be the lowest dose or just a usual starting point, not sure) on January 5. I saw a big improvement almost immediately. Then a couple of weeks later it seemed my symptoms were coming back so my dr. increased my dose to 200 mg. So, my symptoms caused by low progesterone (insomnia and mood swings) were taken care of. But, low estrogen symptoms (joint pain, depression, almost constant urinary tract infection, brain fog) were still bad so I went back to the dr. in February and told him what I wanted (bioidentical estrogen) and he started me on the lowest dose (.5mg) and so far, so good.smile

That's so great it's working for you. Gives me hope that it might work for me too as we are about the same age, have similar symptoms and still having periods. I saw my gyn yesterday and she said if I went on HRT that my periods may be erratic and I wouldn't know when to expect them but yours stopped you say? So were you on only Prometrium for awhile? Then started estrogen in Feb?

Yes, I'm so happy about my progress! I hope you have great results too. I have had spotting which lasted for a few days at a time, but only once a month like a very light period.  I read that you can experience spotting for up to several months. I don't think I had any bleeding at all in March. But, yes I am taking prometrium and estrace once day every day.

So at one point you just took Prometrium? I read somewhere about just taking progesterone in peri so I asked my gyno about it and she said no it's always in combo with estrogen.

Yes, my Dr. Started me on prometrium only. I think he might have wanted to see which symptoms that would be relieved by that and then see what symptoms (if any) would be left. By introducing the hormones one at a time, we could pinpoint the one that didn't agree with me.( if either one did) of course they both agreed, thank God! But, he did say that some women take only the prometrium, because there are some still produce enough estrogen, but are progesterone deficient.

Did you have your hormones tested before starting HRT? Thanks

Hmmm I only took progesterone because my levels was low .. I didn't have to take both. My test showed estrogen was fine.

no, I didn't have to have any testing before starting hrt. My diagnosis was based on my age and symptoms
